Well, cold as all get out.
Got a CR125 07' unit broken down, and tons of parts awaiting installation.
Suspension going to Factory Connection for revalving/springs, etc. $$$
Wheels will be silver Takasago/Talon/Bulldog/spline nips/Starcross5 med. FMF Fatty/Turbinecore2. Ride Engineering clamps(perhaps?). Leaning towards the "Lighter Side" with my cheap assed epray FLU graphics and am tired of black rims.
Engine/tranny will get the "Full Monty", and ALL other bits of the bike will be rebuilt to OEM. Not a rocket, just reliable fun.
I restored an 05' last year and it was a blast. I fabricated some tools from basic hardware store stuff to simplify much engine work, and will post photos of the 07' rebuild as I go along over the next few months. Hey, I have a demanding job. Keeping the build under $5K. I know, $$$, but I love these bikes.
It is only money and time, and good to keep old Honda 2T's around... Stay tuned, because it is good to share and I have learned so much from the builds of others.

The Shop
Oh wait, it is an eccentric puller for those pesky water pump bearings....
EDIT: Removed naughty language/smarmy remark!
In the background is my fully reconditioned/revalved forks/shock from Factory Connection. I suck at photography, but will post clear pics of them as well when the lighting is accommodating.
Wheel set coming in next week from FasterUSA... Pics pending as well....
We shall move on...
Went out to fire up the smoker for a 30lb butt cook...
OG LIGHT SPEED carbon bits were there by the mail box with the BLESSING of God! "I'd like to thank JESUS for the ability to locate the OG 07' CR125 HONDA bits". WOOT! They don't make much for Honda... Plus gettin' TWO sets! This really happened TODAY.
Do you have an Ace Hardware that carries the "life saving" Hillman brand for bolt/nut/screw hardware? They make some marvelous stuff, much metric SS replacement stuff for bikes. Yeah, usually gets a laugh. Often better than OEM.
I'll head to Ace tomorrow to determine WTF it is exactly called, some sort of toggle-bolt IIRC. It can even be ground/thinned more to scoop under far more shallow clearances between the outer case and inner bearing race. Note the sleeve pin. Plenty of material on the toggle-bolt to grind away the toggle-bolt with a Dremel to allow it to fit under the tightest areas. Scoop the bearings out easily, as they are small. 1/4" drive is plenty.
I often wander hardware aisles to see how I can make my life easier. I'll get back to you soon, hopefully tomorrow!
EDIT: All this does is replicate a tiny blind bearing puller... Just smaller than most blind bearing puller kits supply.
Yep, use a torch on the outer case and they will just fall out... I use mild heat from a heat gun during removal and insertion. Not a fan of uncontrolled torch heat on bike engine cases. YMMV.
Item # 370272, 3/8 x 4-1/2" T-Anchor
Listed on the parts bin at the ACE store as "T-Anchor for Hollow Block, 3/8X4/1/2"
http://wedo.hillmangroup.com/item/solid-wall-anchors/t-anchor/370272
I don't know their distribution range, but my tiny local ACE Hardware carries Hillman fasteners, and the assortment is staggering, especially the SS metric stuff, in several grades. Even chrome bits. My local ACE has held my 3 VW's reliably together for decades. Lowes and Home Depot should be ashamed.
I'd like to think there would be comparable stuff in your area...
NOT good... Can feel severe bearing contact ridges with fingers alone. No need to measure/mic:
Pit Row
I cannot imagine how bearing race worn axles benefit my pending new FasterUSA setup...Wheel slop from worn axles compromises and promotes wear from the "get go". It is a Holistic system....
I am not a fan of removing "casting ridges", because they do function as "Mini I-Beams". Anyone who has been to a "Strength of Materials" class knows this. Excess removal of material via blasting/sanding/grinding is your call. Yes, even brushing falls into that category overall.
.
EDIT:
With patience and light brushing, you'll round over the harsh OEM casting ridges that trap dirt. Yep, I am that OCD in the winter... Gotta get this build done soon.
Also note perhaps the most "organic" parts on a dirt bike... "Oddly shaped" Shifter and Brake levers and how they direct/funnel contact points via bevels towards the control surfaces. Cool. I only completely remove the casting ridges on the top and match OEM bevels on these parts, No wonder we love these things.
Background... "Dilly, Dilly"... Blue makes it look like a cursed YZ... I love RED.
125's rebuilt/ported/polished on the kitchen counter! I adore this stuff!
I already did the cylinder/head a few months ago... Basically just a light clean up, no real modifications. Full RC valve reconditioning. Beauty. "Head Start" program, as I like to call the build. Will likely fall behind. Job eats up much time. Pics pending.
Thanks to FasterUSA! FasterUSA Hubs, Takasagos, Bulldog SS spokes, Red square drive Nips. All wrapped in delicious Michelin SC5 Mediums.
I am paranoid, so I put them on the balancing stand, and checked trueness and spoke torque. They are superbly crafted. The shipping/packing was also spot on.
Moving on...So tired of black rims...
