BD I talked to Terry about a month ago & he mentioned Ricky D's 06 CR2 getting a holeshot at the WC 2T race & leading with his engine mods.. He told me it was making around 55hp so it's interesting to see the dyno chart showing 48-49hp.. He also mentioned Ricky pulled 300-500cc 2t's off the line with a standard 250 bore. Impressive !

Either way I'm going to be sending him an 03 CR2 cyl. & head to have him massage it.

Wise decision on going with Varner on the TM engine mods...
That was a 265 stroker that made 55.

I guess it depends on what dyno the #'s are pulled from. When they 1st came out they were rated at around 47-48hp on the dyno in stock form from the major mx mags..
Below is a quote from mxa mag that had the CR making 7 hp over stock with Varner's mods that would put it in the 55hp range.

Our 2006 CR250 was fast, real fast. This is when Terry Varner revealed the dyno numbersโ€”his laundry list of mods had added seven horsepower to our 10-year-old smoker. Seven horsepower? Could it be true? It didnโ€™t take long to confirm the dyno results on the track as overzealous test riders grabbed too much throttle at the wrong time and found out how quick the rear end could step out. After a few horsepower-induced white-knuckle moments, the MXA gang adapted to the aggressive engine and gave it the respect it deserved.

Dynos are relative and many people find ways to manipulate the numbers.

That can be true in some cases. The proof is on the track & Varnerโ€™s engine mods show he knows what he is doing.
If you decide to sell the 250 TM Iโ€™d be interested in buying it. Good work on both bikes especially on attention to detail.

I agree, he builds the best CR250 engines on the planet. Bar none.

He has done a ton of them. He can get at least 5-6 more HP out of the CR125's.

I finally got around to weighing the bikes on a digital scale this morning, with all fluids full and the tank drained like the AMA requires.

The 250 weighs 211.6 lbs.

The 144 weighs 196.7 lbs.

The 144 was about what I expected but I thought the 250 would be closer to 207 or 208 but I was wrong. It's still respectable by all means especially with the Xtrig triple clamps on there. They add a full pound to the bike but are worth it in my opinion because of the adjust-ability they offer.

The bikes still have the OEM steel axles, swingarm pivot bolt and a few other miscellaneous bolts in various key areas for durability purposes.

Did you have a fall out with Derrick Harris or just simply went to Verner because he is better?
I would rather not get into the details of all that on Vital.

How heavy was your CR250?

He is phenomenal on CR125s... he did a project CR125 for us and it was a monster when he was done. You need to give him the entire motor, intake and carb. He did some work for Team Honda back in the day when Lamson was on 125s. Our CR125 went from zero to hero really quick. I believe we were at 38hp when he was done but Iโ€™ll have to dig up the dyno charts on it. He would have them as well. I think we ended up running VP T2 in it, so we couldโ€™ve got more with some MRX02.

Still pretty good without going all out. My 2014 CR250AF was at 212lbs with some fuel in the tank. The TM look like an heavy bike(bigger shroud that the actual standard, big aluminium frame). Did you also ou the lightest tires, fat bike tube etc too lower the weight?

I prefer heavy duty tube than changing tire at the track but in a quest to lower the weight itโ€™s a cheap option.

Just regular IRC tubes.

BD,

Just out of curiosity, what gear was used for the dyno pulls on your bikes?... I'll assume 4th?

I am going to stick to the carbureted bikes for now. I like the simplicity and the lighter weight of the 2018 setup.

Is it the shorty that uses the second bracket? I run the OEM setup, but have gotten complaints at races for being too loud.

The 125 and 144 use the same sub-frame as the 250 and that is why there is a secondary bracket.

I know. I was asking if it was the PC shorty, which utilized both hangers on the subframe for the 125/144.

The PC silencer isn't a shorty, it is 1.5" longer than stock and it uses both brackets.
