Decided to do a little refresh on my FX, while we wait for the scorching heat to die down here in southern AZ. Just got the frame back from a month long stint at the powder coaters. They did a great job, so it was worth the wait.

Looking good.

On a side note, how do you like the US general tool cart you have in the back? I’m thinking about picking one up.

Thanks!

As much as I hate putting money in China’s pocket, it’s a huge bargain for the price. I really like it and would recommend it.

I ended up splitting the cases on this bike and installing a 6th gear from a 500 EXC. I think this is something that KTM/Husky should have done on the FX450s and 450XCFs, much like what they did with the cross country 350 gearbox. I hated that I would get in a wash, hit 5th and have nothing left. The 6th gear in this bike is warp speed, and opens up the gearing options. As you can see in the photo, there is a spacer on the shafts, which are removed and replaced with the 6th gear set.

I noticed some spots on the frame upon tear down, where dirt had gotten between the tank/rubber tank pad and frame, and rubbed through the powdercoating. I decided to buy some 3M vinyl and cut some pieces to place in these areas. Another spot was on the front side of the foot peg mounts. You can get a small roll on amazon for pretty cheap.

If you look closely enough, you can see the vinyl under the tank pad.

I went with yellow hoses, which I think go nicely. Usually I am not a fan of colored hoses in most cases. I added some insulation, as husky has these hoses really close to the header and upper exhaust manifold.

The radiators clean up nicely with some 2000 grit sandpaper and some mother’s polish. They come from the factory pretty smooth to begin with, so the job is quick and easy.

Awesome build!
I am curious where you purchased the carbon fiber side plate protectors?

Love the Yellow frame! What graphics are you going to be running?

Did you flip the exhaust flange like our instructions show?

Looking at your Pic If you cut 1/4 inch off the top of the hose where it goes the the T hose that will pull it up some away from the exhaust
