Hi everyone, I’ve recently bought a 1992 cr250 and noticed the forks have been abused to make a set of 96 forks fit with too big of a gap with top clamps where they bolt up, I’ve got a 04-05 crf front end coming clamps forks the bike has new wheels and the discs which look like they’ve been updated to fit the 96 forks 6 bolt holes on disc, I’m sure this has been covered before, but could anyone help me with what also will be required to fit the front end or would it be basically a straight swap. Thanks, Jack

I’m thinking you may need to change out the steering stems.
The 92 has a shorter head stay. I have no idea how this could be corrected with any bearing kit.
So press out the stem and exchange them.

Fortunately you have the later front wheel.

I can’t explain the 96 set up and how it worked. Built a 92 recently and updated the front end. Discovered the issue with the stems.

All balls has a spacer and bearing swap or like stated above you can press out the stem and replace it with shorter one from the current set of forks. I just did the spacer and bearing in my 91 CR250 that I put a 06 front end on. My forks were KXF Showa forks even.

Ah-ha…. So that All Balls kit does allow for the extra length. I just used the standard bearings and added a second locking nut.
