Okay, I have done the RM250 build, a YZ250, a KX100, and am working on a YZ125. But rarely do I see first gen 4 stroke builds of any nature. They may not be the best, but there is something unique a cool about a budding 4 stroke from the "old" days. I picked up a 06 RMZ450 build to accompany my new RMZ and RM. Its cool looking and different enough from my new RMZ that I could justify building one for the collection. Plus I love anything RC raced. I need some inspiration, I was thinking about doing a RC themed build, but that seems a bit cliché. So, I may just do whatever and try to keep it clean and classy.

Let see what ya got!

No takers?

Here is what I am starting with. Picked up a Light Speed glide plate for it the other day and actually got it running. it was non-running when I purchased it. Checked the timing and it slipped a tooth. I assume the previous owner just never adjusted the manual tensioner after riding it at all.

Runs great and the 4 speed is pretty cool. I will probably end up going with the R&D Power Bowl on it like I did on my wife's 150R, unless anyone has any other suggestions?

Also, thinking about going with a Rocket Exhaust on this, they look awesome and get great reviews.

They were good bikes! You could consider a Smets/Strijbos replica if you are into GP style:

If I had one I would do a RC build and who cares what anyone thinks is cliché. My wife and I hung out with the guy and he’s totally cool, upfront and honest, not to mention how awesome he could ride.

I have a White Brothers Carbon exhaust for the '06 RMZ450. It's in great shape with very low time. Kept it when I sold the bike in '07. PM me if interested. -Jay-

Okay, so I am between a few different graphic styles. I am leaning heavily towards a RC "tribute" kind of thing. I don't plan on making it an exact copy, mainly the Makita graphics with a mix of my personal taste of parts and modern modifications. I am leaning towards the 07 Makita Suzuki style graphics, but here are all 3. Anyone have any suggestions on who to go through to re-create these?

one of the great things about the rmz450 is they havent changed much of the dimension or design theory. the 1st gen is close enough i've seen someone (with a little fab) fit the 08 body and tanks.

I always loved the 4 speed on the 450s too. long gears and lots of torque was perfect for me

I’d love to get one of these first gen RMZ’s. My dad’s buddy still has his 05. I remember riding that bike as it was pretty much the first 450 I ever rode. It was like a light switch. Either on or off with no in between. I’m not sure why, but as much as I loved the look of them, they always just looked heavy to me. Maybe because it was the first 450 I ever rode and I remember how much heavier it felt compared to my 250f at the time.

Not an RMZ but I’m on board with the early/mid school 4 strokes, my son abandoned his 11 KXF 250 when he went off to uni so I have given it a new lease of life, I love riding it

Speaking of Makita bikes and all the love for RC and his RM250, here are some pics that I forgot I had from Vegas way back then.

Don't mind the nerd in the hat.

I don't remember this bike but its pretty cool. Travis was there as well and that was the first time I met him.

This is my old RMZ250 I had back then:

Actually,  those first RMZs had a VERY mellow, very linear, powerband, with the stock exhaust. Still have my 2006.
