Andrew Short's 2003 Motoworld Suzuki RM125 Build

Edited Date/Time 4/15/2021 9:00pm
Scored pretty good on FB Marketplace a few days back and found Andrew Shorts SX bike from the 03 season. The plan is to redo it and make it just how it looked and ran back in 03. All the parts are there besides the big stuff (A Kit, Wheels and Titanium). This is going to be a slower build as Winter is creeping around the corner, but I will keep it updated as progress is made and will post a lot of pictures. It doesn't seem like the bike has a ton of time on it, but it wasn't taken care of well at all. Heres the bike as it sits -

Did a wash on it the day after I picked it up (Used Spectro Bike Wash, I swear by that stuff) and now its clean enough for the tear down. Current pics-

Really good find, those were nice bikes! Since you already have the graphics on the bike I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to have a graphic company to do a full replica.

Got it all torn down now, came apart surprisingly easy everything’s intact besides kit stuff and a few bits and pieces

Bike is down to the frame now, off to get powder coated Monday. Found some markings on the backside of the cylinder as well, pretty sweet!

Cool find and build.
Just curious if the seller had it posted as Short’s bike or did they have no idea?

The guy knew who's bike it was, but that was really it though. Had minimal pics of it and had it listed as an 05 too

Nice find, will be a really cool bike to have.

Do you intend on riding it once it's complete?

I will end up riding it at the end of the build, probably do so before I put on the new stickers and seat cover to keep it nice

Absolutely, finding parts is proving to be tough, but getting there slowly. The 240 is my brothers car, not too sure what his plan with it is. Got a million projects going on around here can't keep track of them all haha

Frame is off getting painted, here’s more stuff from the Vapor Blaster -

Update so far-

Frame is getting sanded currently, just waiting on paint and clear coat
Motor is off getting the bottom end done
Parts keep rolling in little by little. Just got in the front forks yesterday from another vital member, super pleased. Everything’s coming right along. Still looking for a NOS set of Motoworld Graphics and seat cover for the 03 SX series. If anyone has em feel free to shoot me a message on here!

Do you have any photos of the frame before you sent it off? Curious to know if the team did any work to it other then the welding of tabs for skid plate and case guard. Following with interest, great project!

I do not unfortunately. I looked it over closely before sending it out and didn’t find anything else other than the skid plate and water pump tabs. The frame still has a VIN too, I know most factory bikes at the time didn’t

That pipe and silencer are awesome. For some reason when I was a kid I always thought the tiny stinger silencers were awesome.

I bought that bike back in 04' from a friend who bought all the Motoworld bikes back then, (I'm in CT as well) It was a ripper and we cut down the silencer even shorter as compared to stock, and it was in great shape. Good luck with that bike, we did a top end and clutch and that was about it. And it appears that it was re-plated due to the stamping on the back base of the cyl so thats good.
