99' Pro Circuit Splitfire RC Replica. KX125 (NEW PHOTOS)

Edited Date/Time 11/4/2020 2:15am
Ever since i was a teenage boy i always loved the looks of a Splitfire KX. They were one hell of a trick looking bike, and had some really cool parts amongst it! They were sure a very successful team over the years with plenty of talent go through the team.

I found this bike local to me, about 2 hours from home and the condition was very poor. It hardly ran, the airboot didnt even meet to the carb, the electrical was a mess and dodged up everywhere i looked, i payed $1200 AUD for this bike, a bit over 12 months ago from today.

From then i stripped the bike to nothing, all before i even began to look for parts and availability etc. I never realised how hard to find and rare alot of these parts are for these bikes and the price on some of the stuff.

Took me some emailing and question asking to find who and where can do the correct frame colour with in AUS for me, i ended up finding a company and got my frame organised and sorted which was interstate. Whilst i was interstate i was on a boys trip doing some ride parks and the party thing as you do at 23 years old. Last day of riding i ended up shattering my heel in my left foot leaving me needing to have surgery. 8 days later i went in and had 9 screws put in to hold it all together and told 8 months till i would walk... This put my bike project on the back burner but gave me time to source up alot of parts and ideas, until the money dried up for me.

So i will start with a few photos etc and if i get enough interest i will keep this thread going with updated photos along the way. Yous let me know if you want more.

Cheers

First thing was first. Fit some NOS PC foot pegs to it, and then strap it to the stand to work off that.

Also gave the swing arm a good go, giving it a look i wanted, none of the polish mirror crap. Fitted with all new hardware and bearings.

With the time i had off with my injury, i had alot of time on my hands to source some good quality things needed for this build. Thanks to mostly fellow vital members. Including the 99 Splitfire seat cover, which is seeming as rare as unicorns.

My muffler was not ideal either. I cleaned it up myself.

The kickstarter had been hacked at and look ugly, plus i never really liked the cast lines in it, so i worked on that for a couple of hours.

I agree with what everyone above said. Love the look of brushed aluminum...excellent ! You're in this waist deep now, lol, so keep the pic's coming, and continue to heal up.

Sorry on the late reply. Had some New Years antics to attend haha. So i firstly got the dent fixed up by a mate of mine, then i had it heat treated to removed all carbon on the inside etc, then spent time with scotch brite wheels on a bench grinder to clean it back raw clean. Then heated the welds as you can see, and the clear ceramic coating 👌

Instead of buying an expensive OEM gear lever i got a cheap anodised one which i then sand blasted and scotch brited myself to save some $. Also had a good mate of mine machine a plug to fit in the end of it for a clean look.

I also cleaned my subframe myself which was alot of time and effort involved. As it was originally black powder coat, it took alot of getting off. Then having to hand sand it all, was hell. Think my hands still hurt.

Finding the correct front plate which is clear vented plate is bloody hard, im yet to see a legit one up for sale. So i improvised. I brought a clear front plate, and cut it myself. Happy with the outcome i got, thats for sure! Then even got Ricky Carmichael to sign it also!

No bullshit, this was the best before/after resto I've ever seen of a 2 stroke exhaust on vital.

Might I ask what clear ceramic you used?

Brand new excel rims, spokes, fitted with new sprocket and correct oversized braking discs, oem hubs, and bridgestone tyres. Not Dunlops like a lot of people do!!
