I'm wrapping up the build on my 1996 cr250 that I purchased last year. I think I'm finally at the point where I don't need to purchase any more parts, just reassemble what I have taken apart or acquired over the past few months. I didn't start a step by step build because I didn't know how long it would take me because it is my first build. I really liked the look of the 92-94 Team Honda bikes so I decided to go with that theme, hope you guys enjoy.

My starting Point
Photo
Tearing it down
Photo
Lots of spray paint on this bike, zep paint remover worked ok

The spokes were all seized up, so I had to use the cutting wheel
Photo
Got a very good deal on a set of 2004 twin chamber showa forks
Photo
Took a lot of the casting marks off while cleaning up odds and ends. I looked at every bolt on this bike and either ordered a replacement or thoroughly cleaned it.

Luckily for me I didn't encounter any seized bolts. The swingarm looked rough so I soaked it in greased lightning degreaser to remove the anodizing then sprayed with NAPA aluminum brightener and finally followed up with WD-40 on a scotch bright pad
Photo
The radiators didn't leak but are pretty tweaked, I was able to get them fairly straight, this is how they looked initially

I painted the frame and started to reassemble, Evo Mx handled my graphics
Photo
I took off most of the casting marks on the triple clamps and shined them up to look more like billet
Photo
Oem pipe got blasted then scotch bright with WD-40, I added 2017 yz450f foot pegs and crf450 rear master cylinder

I got the hubs powder coated satin black and laced them up to D.I.D. rims
Photo
This is pretty much how the bike is sitting currently, really pleased with my cloth renthal pad.
Photo
Hopefully this weekend my shock will be finished getting rebuilt so I can move on with assembly. I did the 97+ 240mm rear brake mod and added a 270mm front rotor kit from Braking.

That can't be a real stanton bike....it has to be a really really bad replica. Although i would absolutely kill for that seat cover there are so many things wrong on that bike for those graphics to be appropriate. That bike looks like a 92-94 with the other graphics on it in my opinion. and the renthal stickers on the forks are driving my ocd crazy

I've seen that picture and wondered why he has it. It's the 95 team graphics on 94 plastic and he retired in 94. Maybe there's a cool back story to it

Did you have to mod the frame to get the rear master cylinder fitted? I am building a 92 right now and have a newer 450 master cylinder but don’t want to grind the frame to make it fit. Is there a trick to it?

I didn't do any grinding, it bolted right up to mine

Starting to see the finish line. I'm waiting on some Hrc clutch and ignition covers. Front wheel is getting trued. Need to bleed the brakes and put on the radiator hoses

Little sneak peek, I still have a lot to do. I was just happy to have it on both wheels again so I took it out for a picture Photo

Big fan of the CR2 92-96 models.. Wish I still owned my 93 race bike..

Speak softly and carry a big stick.

Dirtstar rims look good.

I am wondering how you mount your front plate? Looks like the newer top clamps have the bolt on the top rather than the front on the 96.

For now I'm just using an L bracket

Started putting all the fluids in today to hopefully get it running but unfortunately my right radiator has developed a leak at the spout that goes to the water pump. Now the question is do I send it off for repair? Buy a used radiator hoping it works? Or buy the cheap eBay radiators? I've seen a mixture of opinions on those

go oversize on radiators. i got 94’ doing with oversize off ebay looking good!

All these sick '90's builds are taken me back. So nice.

I decided to send my radiators to ICW rather than go the eBay route. I can't recommend these guys enough. They had to do some welding and straightening to both radiators and I had them back 6 days after I dropped them off at the post office. Photo

I got the bike basically finished but when I took it out for a shakedown run I developed a hole in the pipe, shipped the pipe to pacific crest today Photo

Awesome job, love how simple and clean it looks. Definitely has that factory Stanton look with a twist. Nice!

How's the quality on those Evo graphics? That's the place in England, correct?
