Will be a lot taking place the next couple weeks. All parts are ordered/arriving.
Motor is getting a full rebuild with oem crank.

Powdercoating..
Frame
Subframe

Bolts & everything rusted will be sent for new zinc plating

Had my choice between fairly good condition pipes PC or FMF

Will clean up the PC & add a new r304 silencer

After reading through forums about adding newer forks I also went ahead & started searching for the goods.

I added SSS to the 97 yz250 I did last year so how could I not.

I found 06 kx450 forks (need to be rebuilt)
07 kx450 wheels,hub,rotor (going for powder/cerakote too)
Axles, spacers & 07 kx450f brake system. Everything will bolt right into the clamps. Also rebuilding the rear shock.

Hey, as a possibility on the rusty hardware, Spec Bolt has a line of nickel plated, flanged and dished bolts.
I plan to go this route on my build ('95 YZ250). http://store.specbolt.com/index.php/cPath/99/osCsid/ns6l98h478re8q24nkj…

Not sure if it is more cost effective to re-plate or go with new hardware but just throwing it out there. Keep up the good work!!

I will be replacing all the body bolts but bolts like axles motor mounts swingarm linkage etc and is about $50-60 to do the whole bike every bolt washer nut

Forks, front wheel, axle & spacers off the 06 shipped out today.

Forks will need to be rebuilt & cleaned up but I’m into them fairly cheap for even actually finding 06-12 kx 450f forks

Scored a early version of the r304 today, I’ll get it all cleaned up. Also found a retro sticker from Works finish along with a CF mudflap mount.

Sweet build! Love all these smoker builds. As info those forks you got are 2006 not 07. 07 and up had dlc lowers and a different top cap.

Perks of putting an 07 brake setup is it’s cheaper to find some parts to help the performance. I will be racing this machine. I’m doing what I can to make it compareble to today’s Setups.

Just scored this EBC 280 kit for $52

No green. Found nos purple shrouds

Basically making it a 96 with updated forks & brakes. My 96 clamps allow me to still run the 96 plastics.

Ordered the evo 96 kit, seat cover, swing arm & plates

Thought about painting or vinyl wrapping 06 kx forks guards purple to truly give that 96 look

Went to send hubs off for cerakote, ya silicone was on the rear hub because it was cracked. Ended finding a billet talon hub off a buddy. This will be stripped & cerakote to match the front

Looking good so far! can't wait to see what's next. This build nees some Ti bolts though.
