Honda CRE250 Enduro-Let's call it 97% Finished

Edited Date/Time 2/18/2021 4:31am
Hi All, i'm currently in parts hunting mode to gather the stuff for my next build, a HM Italy CRE250! i'm putting the word out to see if anyone has anything for a CRE. these things were rare when they were current, so parts are very tough to come by. I've found a few rare bits, but there are a few things i'm still looking for.... Below are a few examples of the bike

That CRE125 is sooo rad.
Yellow front fender, conventional forks ... man!
Just any 125 enduro 2t is cool enough without it being vintage.

That is extremely cool! You almost never see an all original one like that! Can you post some more pics of whatever that carbon bit on the bottom of the tank is? Is it a heat shield or some sort of tank extension?

it's a one-off tank he (E-Line) made from carbon/kevlar to allow use of the stock tank and still have the range to make it between the gas stops at national enduros. pretty slick.. the 250 and 260 models just used Clarke large plastic tanks

Thanks for the pic! That is really neat! I’ve seen a few with the Clarke tank but I ordered an IMS for mine because I like the quality a little better.....

I have a very nice Pro Circuit spark arrester for the 92-96 CR250 if anyone is interested....

Slowly but surely inching ever closer.... found this NOS Acerbis rally front fender. These are a bit wider than a stock Honda fender and deflect mud/water better

This is my favorite topic on Vital currently. Have always wanted a ‘96 CRE with Paioli forks!

I’m glad you’re into it! Marzocchi Magnum 45mm forks are first on my list, but I’ve been keeping an eye out for some Paoli’s too!

Finally found the Marzocchi Magnum 45mm conventional fork guards.... one more super rare part checked off the list!

Nice! Did you get them from parts-traders on eBay? That guy has all sorts of good stuff, I just got another set of old Acerbis handguards from him... what are you using those purple fork guards on?

CREs are super cool. Keep us posted on the build. I plan to build a 90' CRE style tribute bike out of my 90' 250. It won't be too authentic but it will be an enduro CR. I don't have the budget to find original pieces. Looking fwd to see how this comes together.

will do, i'm in the middle of seling my house and moving to idaho, so all projects are on hold for a bit, but as soon as we're settled at the new place i'm going to get serious about finishing this one.
the '90 will be cool, it's not as expensive as you think to find the original parts. most people don't know what they have, so it just takes more patience than money. i've been hunting CRE parts for two years, and don't have as much into it as you'd expect. Hit me up when you get started, I have an HRC lighting coil & heavy flywheel that will probably work on that bike.

Nice. I would for sure be interested in the lighting coil. Unfortunately I would not be able to buy it immediately as I just had a $2000 bill for fixing my truck and a notice of reduced work days for the next couple months. Money is just too tight. If you want PM me a price and an email to get ahold of you. We can see what kind of plan we could do in the spring.

where'd you source the Acerbis rear fenders?

I just got lucky. I found them both on eBay, over the course of the last few years. One came from Australia, and cost me about $100, the just a few weeks later I scored the second one for only $30 from the Chaparral Motorsports eBay store.
it's also worth mentioning that I tried to order a UFO enduro fender from MDracingproducts in the UK, the ones in the picture are what I wanted, but what showed up was a moto style CR fender with the large black taillight bolted under the fender. I've got nothing bad to say about how they handled the situation, but I was bummed that the pic was not correct, and they still haven't updated the listing with the correct photo.

Yeah that’s the same situation a friend of mine just ran into with the Moto style fender. Ordered it from the same place with the same result. Sucks because I was counting on them for a couple of the fenders like they have in their ad
Well if you see anymore for sale or if you decide to part with one of yours please let me know.

So if possible, can you please post some more pics and/or dimensions on that rear fender support/grab bar? i'm losing hope that i'll ever find one, and am just going to build it.

Another lucky break! found a set of Applied clamps that are made for the Marzocchi Magnum 45mm conventional forks!
Also found an unused set of those forks! i'll still have to figure out a caliper carrier, axle and wheel spacers, but this part of the project just got a lot easier.

On Hine’s 150 he used the OEM triples and simply shimmed the bottom clamps to fit the 45mm conventionals..
I like your approach better ?
