I will start this by saying I know I’m a little crazy, but we do this because we love it. I rode a lot up until about the age of 18. Then it was just something I did every now and again. Now 30 I’m, older and more stable and wanting to hop in the saddle again. I decided I wanted to build something for myself to enjoy that no one else had. Then came the idea of a conversion. I have always ridden Honda so I looked into the 500’s and 01 and earlier 250’s but they seemed a little more common now. As I was looking I came across the conversion kit for the earlier smokers in the 4th gen frame (crf250) so I figured I would go that route except with an 03 CR250 engine and modify things a bit along the way because we all know those rc exhaust valves don’t fit. Btw I am going bout this piece by piece instead of a roller. Buying every major assembly (mostly used from parted bikes when I find a deal) as I go and changing seals, bearings cleaning and inspecting one thing at a time . I got the engine, frame/sub frame, swing arm and conversion kit in February. Shock, front end, carb and seat came in around April. So I spent time and money where I could playing with those parts until June. Then I had to stop until my buddy (a welder) could help me with the frame mods. The majority of the other things have come in the last month and my friend and I had 3 day to get together, drink beer and mod shit. Now I have 98% of the parts and 70% of the bike built. I just wanted to share my build because well I love motocross and I have hit the one major expected hurdle I knew would come. the frickin servo assembly for the exhaust valve. The fuel tank in the 07 crf 250 frame doesn’t allow the servo to fit where I need even after all the reshaping it will tolerate. sooo I’m looking at aluminum fuel tanks (cutting into one is now problem if I need to) and no one seems to make one for that year. So my question... does anyone know how and or of the aluminum fuel tank for the newer crf’s will fit the plastics and frame of an 07 crf 250? Yes, I know it has a gaping hole in the bottom. I don’t mind the fab work. I will have to cut an fab a pocket in the tank for the servo assembly anyways.

It's not my bike it's my friends but a new Y section of the frame was made from a piece of billet machined block of aluminum. Also has a 2010 crf250r with his 06 cr125 engine in another.
