After the first hour, Protaper Carmichael bend bars and air bleeders. Protaper levers 30 minutes later after clutch lever broke in a tip over. I like them better than the ARC I have used in the past. Cycles hand guards a few hours later, after a rock bloodied my left hand, aargh. What a pain in the ass to mount. About ten hours in the NEKEN SFS went on, best suspension mod one can make.

Tusk wheelset for practice and gp’s.Stock wheelset for Mx, stock are my favorite and if I bought spares again I would look to buy them next. 49t rear sprocket added after the DrD slipon, combining those additions after 25 hours of stock gearing and muffler use, netted a 4 second per lap reduction at one of my favorite tracks. Yes, the bike was so much easier to ride. I use the tp11 map as well. I put on a 2017 front fender, I like it’s shape better, and added the Acerbis frame guards, fork protectors, and GYTR skid plate, along with the polis port radiator mesh. The mesh is awesome as it does not allow mud build up in the radiator Oliver’s. Photo

Sick bike.

30 minutes on a ribbed seat cover, it helps without being annoying. Always ran a Twinair with a filterskin to keep it clean and not have to change air filters so often. I might have missed a couple bling things, but I am really happy with this bike. I will post a clean pic of it soon and a list of my preferred settings for riding/racing. Photo

Settings:
Bars- rather than go for last years bar mounts to lower the bar to seat ratio, I chose to go with my standard bend( for the last 25years) in the “low” height to accomplish the same thing. Those are Honda bend, or Protaper Carmichael bend. I run them at center in the rear position of the triple clams. MLevers- in the ? position.
Shift and Brake lever- although I tried the Hammerhead levers for both, I ended up with the stock units in the as delivered factory position.
Fork height- after testing several heights, 5 mm from below the cap showing, raised, was the best.
Fork clickers- from full hard: 10 out on compression and 8 out on rebound. 78psi in the triple clamps.
Note: I weigh 160 or 73kg and ride at +30 intermediate speed on a good day.
Shock- again from full hard: 1 turn out on high speed compression, 12 out on low speed compression and 9 out on rebound
Sag: I am too light to achieve 105mm rider sag without negatively affecting handling, so I found 38 mm static sag works best with the stock spring.
Engine idle- don’t neglect the importance of running a relatively LOW IDLE. This allows me to use the engine braking in a positive way as it helps keep the front end planted on long rutted turns and allows for quick brake slide turns.
Engine Map- TP-11, however I have chose it after several tests with others and my own attempts at mapping. ( a nice compromise map is using the tp11 go and ignition settings with the std rpm and throttle position settings)
Fuel- VP T-4 mixed 50/50. I ran several tanks with U4.4, but I prefer the T-4.

Adding Protaper fusion bars and lock-on pillow tops.

Aaaa... scratch the above. Still putting on cuz ion bars, but found the twister throttle tube by Protaper for my bike. And gonna try the 1/3 waffles for grips. I love that ball bearing assist in that throttle tube.

Protaper Fuzion: I like feel of it. I rode with it locked and unlocked. When locked, it is very solid and I could feel the connection to bike more than my standard oversized bar (Protaper Evo or Renthal twinwall). The drawback locked was increased feedback to the hands in headshake situations.
When unlocked, same positive response as locked. In addition I was able to route my wiring along the crossbar and use the pad cutout for the adjuster to exit the wires, creating a super clean wiring setup. No drawbacks.
DrD Slipon: yup! This is a performance mod for sure. The sound is better(why I bought it), it is 1lb 7oz lighter, and it broadens second and third gears use. I will claim that, on one’s preferred track, laptimes will drop.

Thanks for all the write ups. Its good info

I'm a vet rider and struggling with the handlebar/seat combo. Have just fitted some Renthal 996 which I hope will help after that its lower the clamps or maybe fit a higher seat foam. My knees are shot so I need to get more comfortable.

I've been running the hardpack map which seems great, but looks like I need to actually persevere with the TP or stock map for MX.

Only mods Ive done so far are 49T rear, Ti Pegs and billet fork perch.

I installed the ribbed seat cover over the stock one. The bar bend I use is 10mm lower than stock. I am 6 foot, and long legged, I seem to have plenty of room. Bar angle even with forks, levers at 4 o’clock. FYI.

So, over the course now of these 55 hrs I have tried a few oils. Yamalube, Motorex, and Rock oil. Yamalube and Rock Oil gave the best clutch feedback, Motorex the longest life between changes and reducing noise. I am going back to Yamalube to use as my regular oil. Also, I got a hookup for a Hinson clutch and am going to give it a tryout for the next month or so. Suspension has held up really well, but I am light. The only bothersome thing is with the rebound clickers that go out of adjustment on their own. So I do have to check them regularly, because when they are off it is horrible.

Hinson Clutch, Never used one. I bought one this week and rode with it today. Wow. Hookup more noticeable and no fade during 3-25 min motos in the space of 2 hrs 15 minutes.
Install was super easy on my 2018 yz450f, no need to take the whole side cover off.

Next, use this map tp 2.0 ver. 3, make sure to adjust value and position. I did a full test today, thank me later- lol :

TP 2.0 V3 looks very different to the others!!

I tested the older TP maps this week and on the tracks I ride did not like them. Bike felt full of fuel off the bottom. Will be interesting to see what this new map rides like this week.

I wrote up a bit on the map over at thumpertalk. Love to get your feedback and suggestions.
