Hi guys. My 250 was not in dire need of any parts or any upgrades, but I’m sitting at home on paternity leave and had some money to spare (you could say burning a hole in my wallet). So I thought I better spend it before it gets dusty.

The bike looks good from the get-go, but why the hell not get a few parts i certainly dont need!

First off! New handlebars. I like the stock bend on the KTM. Although it feels a bit low sometimes, so I got a Renthal 934 fatbar 36. I had to get new risers as well, since the fatbar 36 is well - fatter than a fatbar.

New Brembo SXS brakes. Do I need them? Is the stock units good enough? The stock brakes are good, but the CNC milled SXS calipers is a work of art.

Raptor titanium footpegs. These I got for xmas from the mrs. Thank you mrs. Same as above, they are pretty much welding and metal porn.

WP factory split triple clamps. I just wanted them. In black. They are just too much for my taste in orange.

Pro Circuit Works pipe. POOWWEEER! And it looks great.

New graphics, new plastics. New year, fresh looks.

Dirt Tricks sprocket front and rear, counter shaft dome spacer and a bolt kit.

I also bought a set of PHDS risers, but the new handlebar wont work with those.

More pictures when the last boxes of goodies gets delivered!

Thank you!

I spent a few hours yesterday with a red scotchbrite pad and the pipe. I didnt like the look of the pipe at all. So much leftover slag from the welding of the pipe. The pro circuit pipe and Akrapovic silencer proved to be a tight fit. They didnt fit very well together, but I made it work.

I also bled the front brake a few times more. I did a bad job the first time…

Thank you! This is my 4 ktm 250 2stroke since 2015, so I should know a little bit about what to do with them.. Wink It is very good in stock form IMO! I have Cone valves and trax suspension on it, but before I was happy with the trax shock I actually went back and forth between the stock and trax shock a few times. I felt better on the stock shock for a while. I did get the trax better tho, it just took some time. I have spring cone valves on it, but the best suspension ive ever had was a set of AER cone valves. That kit was almost like cheating. Sooo plush and good.

If I had a limited budget I would buy tyres and proper tubes and thats about it. I think what I’m doing here isn’t nessecary or justifiable at all.

And yes, the bike is sweet and pretty cool to ride. Enough power, light and nimble, looks sweet and it just ticks all the boxes IMO. Cheerful

2015 250 SX. One of the last Keihin carburated ones. More vibrations, more powerful engine, but more of a old style, traditional power delivery. Short powerband and big hit.
Only wheels, graphics and pro circuit exhaust on this. I saw that bike 2 years ago and still think fondly of it.

2017 250 SX. First model with the new (now old gen) chassis and engine. Wheels, exhaust and graphics was modified. Fmf exhaust. Hated it. I like smooth roll on, the Fmf ruined that.

2020 250SX. I loved this bike! Brembo sxs brakes, wheels, Akrapovic exhaust, graphics and suspension!

Thats the two strokes ive owned. That brought me down memory lane! Cheerful
In between the two strokes there has been a few 4strokes. 2016 sxf, 2015 TM 250MX FI, a few Kawis, a 2019 350sxf and now two 2t in a row.

Maybe 450 next time??

Thats the same way I did - only used the scotchbrite pad at the end to buff out any scratches made by the steel brush.

The SXS brakes are expensive… too expensive to justify… they modulate better than the stock ones and somehow feel more sturdy. Front brake is better, but I cant feel the difference in the rear as i just cant feel it. Yes they bite. Hard. But if the rear is better? No idea! With boots on I could just as well be stomping on a tennis ball. I would not feel the difference! I looked at moto master’s new calipers as well. They look drop dead gorgeous!

You have a nice build going with your husky! Cheerful

Yes thats how it is 😂
Tomorrow i sent out the Head for Cutting down 0,5mm Sqish is over 2 mm
Next step ist to Order an Aftermarket frontwheel due to the horrible loose spokes and weak OEM Rim
I‘m not sure at the Moment about EXcel A60 or SM Pro Platinum

What else you planned for your 250 SX ?can‘t wait for some Updates 😜

Squish is important!

Why do you want excel a60? They are soooo stiff! I would much rather go for takasago excel, a bit softer, but still hard enough i think… the excels on the ktms are not the same as takasago excels.

Im waiting for a few parts. Sprockets, a bolt kit and im gonna send my suspension off for service tomorrow, so i guess the bike will be finished during the week! Smile

A few pictures of todays work. Im sending my suspension off to get serviced tomorrow and needed to remove the shock and forks!

Quite the difference in the outer tubes on CV’s vs stock ones.

The stock fork lugs has slightly more rounded edges than the billet ones on the CVs.

Stock vs trax shock. Note how many more threads and how much finer incline of the treads the trax shock has.

Up close and upskirt shot… Blink

I bet they work just as good as mine. Have you valved them in any special way?
I want black inner tubes also. It looks so much better than chrome… Grinning

This morning I noticed my shock had a thin layer of oil on the shaft. Leaky seals. Poor thing really needs a service…

How do you like your two stroke compared to that 2019 350 you had? I’m thinking of selling my Husky 350 and getting a gas gas two stroke

I like the 350, but I love the 250 two stroke. But there is a few things you should know if you are considering a smoker:

- It is a similar power bike, but the powerband on the 350 is broader.
- the smoker doesnt have engine braking. Some love the lack of engine braking, some hate it. I love it when im tired. You can ‘coast’ quite a few meters without loosing too much speed and get a few seconds of rest.
- more exciting motor (read: wilder and more unpredictable).
- you HAVE to jet it and mix oil in your gas.
- the 2stroke feels more nimble.

My dad compares four strokes with a happy dog wagging its tail. It will sit if you tell it to sit it will sit. Or go fetch if you want that. He also says a two stroke is like a cat. You can get a fluffy and cozy cat that wants to be pet all day long or a cat that will rip your eyes out in a second and piss on you afterwards. Grinning

With that being said, on a good day with a ripped track and loamy or sandy track id choose the smoker every time! The feeling I get from the smoker unlike anything else.
You can slice and dice other lines than a 4stroke on the track and have a blast on it. A dusty hardpack track that is rough can be a handful sometimes…

I have more fun on it! Cheerful And that counts for alot for me! Smile

Awesome bike! I love how your bike looks! It so clean when you use stock shrouds and have clean graphics. I have a Pro Taper EVO factory Suzuki/Ktm stock bend in my garage. I tried it a few times and it feels good. Maybe worth looking into if you want something else.

Heres mine before I tore it down. Quite similar! Smile

Here is a small update: I have the suspension at the shop for service and revalving the forks. I went with the stock WP 250SX cones, shim stack and reservoir spring setting. I figured to get some other valving since I feel the forks ride too deep into the stroke and feel harsh on some tracks. Especially rough sand tracks. The 250Sx settings seems to be slightly harder and ramp up more before going into the mid part of the travel, so hopefully I’ll like it more.

Still waiting on my stuff from Dirt Tricks. I sent them a email on tuesday and atleast the stuff has been sent and I got a tracking number. Too bad I had to actually ask what was going on. It was ordered the 11 Dec and nothing from them on delays or out of stock products. It was sent the 29th. A bit annoying, but hey! Its winter and I’m not riding since I’d freeze my balls off, but still I’d like to finish the bike. Wink

You can get that Akropovic can through ktm power parts. I think Ktm’s and akro’s go hand in hand. Smile

Update time! I got my suspension back today, as well as few parts.
Revalved my forks to WP 250sx spec from WP. If anyone is interested, I can share the spec sheet on PM with them.

First off all, I FREAKING hate how the plastic protection for the frame rubs on the frame near the footpegs. Here is my solution:

And I need some opinions! Keep in mind that the rest of the plastics is orange as well!

Black

Or orange?

I’m leaning towards black!

Spend a few bucks on jetting and get the slide in AJ’s thread. Play around with the power valve.

A pipe and silencer doesnt hurt! A 300 kit if you want more oomphf. I havent tried any high comp heads, eniginr mods or a lectron. I think the bike runs good enough for me. I cant utilize every ounce of power this bike has, so I’d rather spend my money elsewhere. Smile

can recommend a 300cc kit , so much easier to ride than the 250.
As hylo mention a Lectron Carb I had one on my last 300 SX after few months I change to a Husqvarna ride the bike with Mikuni/ Lectron back to back and sell the Lectron
Wasted 600€

What else you can do is to replace the OEM reeds with a VForce 4 , cheap and good Modification

Here is the ktm powerparts item number: 7940399410030

You can buy them at your friendly ktm dealer! Smile

I’d choose a carb over a lectron all day every day. It isn’t that much work to jet and set up a carb..

Small update time!

Still waiting on the last parts, but I managed to kill a few hours in the garage nonetheless! Cheerful

New fork decals! A lot of work getting the old ones off. When the decal came off ALL the glue was still on the fork tube. Sick

My skid plate! It looks like its been gangbanged by a box of nails.

Less gangbang, more shiny!

Happy days! I wont put too much effort into it. It will be gangbanged by a few hudred rocks and roost after a few hours anyway.

Hello gas cap!

My gas cap says hello. Probably the most useless part I’ve ever bought! Grinning

Not many updates lately. The parts I’m waiting for was stuck at ISC Los Angeles for 10 days, but it’s finally on its way to me. Hopefully going through customs in Norway will go smoothly.

I got a few needles for the carb today. I have AJ’s jetting in the bike, but I am curious to see if i can get it running better. My needle is now on 3rd clip (needle 42-75) and I’ll see if 42-74 and 43-75 will work as good or better. The reasoning behind this is very simple: why not try?

When I was still competitively racing when I was 15-16 every fast kid had Nihilo billet parts all over their bikes. I had a pretty trick KTM 125 with wheels, clamps, exhaust, and other little goodies but never had any of that cool Nihilo bling.

Was doing some mindless eBay searching the other day and came across a used (but pretty good looking) Nihilo orange gas cap for my bike for like $35. I jumped on it immediately 😂.

I chucked it in a box with a bunch of other things I’ve been collecting for when it comes to give my 125 the refresh it deserves. I know there were better ways to spend $30, but 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Haha, I was looking through Nihilos website a few days ago actually! They make awesome stuff.

I used to think anodized master cylinder covers and fancy clutch covers and shiny things were the coolest things ever, but the older I get the more plain and low key I want my bikes. I sure like fancy parts, but I dont want them to be anodized or coated in bright colors anymore… I really dont know what is wrong with me. Laughing

And billet gas caps are cool as hell! 😂

If I were you I would give your 125 the treatment it deserves. Smile

I’m actually giving my 150 (Which was my practice bike at the time) the go-over it deserves. Once that’s done, the 125 will get all the love.
