Picked this bike up with low hours for a good deal. Still has original chain and sprocket so must have been ridden lightly.

Was sitting outside at a shop covered, but still exposed a bit. So there is a little surface rust, but everything else looks good. Plastic was advertised as new, but it's trash.

It does have FMF Ti muffler. Will be doing the Twin Air filter kit, Air EXT footpegs and some new plastics. Not sure what else I will be doing. This is actually my first ever modern four stroke I've owned.

Going to clean it up, lube it and grease it to do a test ride this weekend at Pala to see where we stand then start getting to work!

Not going crazy with this bike, before pics in next post.

Coming from someone who has one if you’re looking for suggestions, I’m super happy with mine and this is what I’ve done.

I’ve got the twin air kit, had no toil, twin air quality is better but they do the same job.

FMF muffler on mine but they’re all the same, pick a brand.

Slater skins intake cover.

I run a 20mm offset clamp and factory connection link. It’s a nice combo but not for everyone. Front end gets a little twitchy but the back deadens out so it’s pretty planted.

I go to a 14t front sprocket. It’s a big jump but it’ll pull it with the other mods.

Switch back and forth between TP3 and TP5 maps depending on track. Run race fuel, I like T4.

Thanks!

This bike already came with a pretty fresh FMF muffler. I ordered the TwinAir Powerflow kit and Slater skins intake.

Really ordered a bunch of stuff. Will need to ride it first to see what else I want to do.

Added TwinAir air filter kit, EXT pegs in low position, chain and sprockets, Acerbis frame guards, chain guide and new plastics (except front number plate).

Still waiting on Slater vented airbox cover. That will be black as well.

Ride day!

First impressions. This bike is super tall! I ran the TwinWall 997's that were on it. Being a super tall bend, stiff, with spring rates way off for me, it handled pretty poorly to be expected.

Coming from a very hot Tom Morgan YZ315 stroker was interesting. I actually found the 315 easier to ride back to back. Maybe somewhat unpopular opinion. The two stroke is gentle when it needs to, but the snap really helps turning and also jumps out of corners.

I tried TP3, TP5 and Magic map on the YZ450. I felt the TP3 was too slow off the bottom and really had to twist my wrist to get it to go. Switched to TP5 and that helped a lot. At the end of the day, the track got rough and the bottom end was insanely jerky on/off throttle, extremely noticeable just riding back in the pits. I went to the Magic map which seemed to be the best to me.

All in all, I did like the grunt down low and the gears just pulled and pulled. I was mostly surprised how competitive the 315 stroker two stroke engine was. In fact, I'd guess peak power was very, very close.

Still have work to do in the handling department and I'm sure I will get used to the power delivery on the 450.

Just solidifies the fact that I will never get rid of the YZ two stroke!

Slater Skins airbox cover came in after the ride so did not get to test that out.

What’s this magic map you speak of? I may try that one too, I think my sweet spot is somewhere between the bottom end of the tp3 and tp5

Added some more holes to the slater skin airbox. Will probably add some vents as well.

Stapes suspension is now on, as well as new graphics. My kid loves it!

What are your thought on the fas way Ext pegs? Do they limit your range of motion when riding on the balls of your feet?

I like them. I don't feel like they limit my range of motion but I would think it would be possible if you used taller cleats in back. Also wear Gaerne SG-12 so they are pretty stiff already.

what are your impressions of the FLEX bars on a moto track? I know most use them for harescramble/GNCC races i was considering them as well for my HS and occasional MX practice.

I really like them. They allow me to get in more laps before getting too tired.

Suspension is done, and works great! I already had the A-kit from Stapes on my YZ315.

How does your standard set of forks revalved by Stapes compare to the Stapes A-kit?

They are valved much differently.

I had him build the YZ315 with A-kit for a fast outdoor pro.

The YZ450F I built to be more of a magic carpet with the Flexx bars and suspension valved closer to the YZ450X.
