Bought a Yamaha for the first time in years and my first 250f. Added some Acerbis protection, stiffer rear spring, IMS oversized tank, Works Connection odds and ends, DRD exhaust and laced up an 18” wheel. After 1 hour break in the ergo’s feel good and the suspension is definitely more “springy” than the WP AER.
Will be fun to see how a 250 works after racing a 350 for the past few years and a 450 before that. Crossing my fingers it’s a good enduro bike as the first day breaking it in at the sand track had me wondering where the HP went! ?.
Despite that it almost feels like it’s needs 1 less tooth on the rear to let 2/3 rev out more. Curious where people are in sag too, as I ended up closer to RaceTech’s rec of 110 than the 105 I started with. Granted it was a sand track.

I have only owned 250 2-strokes and 450Fs since the early 2000s (mostly 450Fs, including 2020s).
My old 2016 YZ250F may be my favorite "all around" bike of all time. It was total experiment I only half believed in. Still have it. The experimenting has just begun!
To your gearing questions:
These YZ250Fs can easily pull 13/49 gearing
Rear suspension thought:
Consider an XTrig preload adjuster for quick adjustments ($150) and set it by feel (starting at 105), then measure. It's a neat way to find YOUR sweet spot precisely and quickly, especially if you're switching between mx and off-road regularly
