Had a little talk with my wallet after selling my 2017 crf450 and ended up leaving work with a Works Edition.

First things first called Yoshimura and got the last works header from this batch

Also stripped it down to save the works plastics and prep it for the first ride

Put a hardline hour meter / tank mount before even starting it

Also got a ARC perch with memlon lever

Torched the header a little bit before putting it on the bike

Also saved my Hinson basket / cover from my 2017

Cycra power flow kit and Renthal bar pad finished up the rest of the build before the first ride

Took it out to ACP to break it in and ended up putting just one hour on it but right off the bat it's 10x better than my 2017

Currently waiting on a few more parts (Matching ARC front brake lever, Blue cv4 hose kit, and Raptor Ti pegs)

Need to figure out what to do with graphics and seat cover soon and will probably end up doing a Dubya wheel set and some works connection bling in the future once my wallet recovers a bit Laughing

Sick build,. Following. On the clutch perch, did you have to disconnect the safety feature from stock to the arc? If so, was it a pain in the ass, or simole?

I did have to cut the wires and twist them together on the clutch switch to use the perch. Only took about 5 minutes

Got some more parts in

Matching Arc brake lever, Cv4 blue hose kit, raptor Ti pegs and the thing I'm most excited about the excel spoke torque wrench

Draining the coolant and doing my first oil change

Hoses are on

Not much size difference between the stock pegs and the raptors

Was so excited to get my new parts on I headed out in the morning to ACP again

I have fallen in love with the feel of these ARC memlon levers and will adding them to all my future builds

Hoses help bring the "factory" look I'm going for with this build

I really digging these Ti pegs as well. I've had flat pegs on my last few 450s and really bummed I didn't try these sooner

The header got a little more heat Wink

Really liking the look of this build. It is shaping up nicely. I am the same way with the ARC Composite Levers, they are an absolute must to be able to get comfortable.

How do you "torch" the header to bring out the blue? I have a Yosh system and think that looks killer! Whole bike looks great man! Congrats!

Bike looks dope! What is it with the arc levers that make them so good? Never tried them before and rarely see them in Sweden.

I typically run a ball bearing perch set up because of the feel of the clutch pull over a standard unbreakable levers I've ran in the past that feel really fat and have different pull / engagement point. These ARC memlon composite levers seem to be the happy medium for me feel wise but like everything else it's all preference

I used a a propane torch to heat up the Titanium to blue it when i get it instead of waiting for the heat of the bike to do it on it's own

First real rain in the deZ so we packed up and headed straight out to a corner track

It was a little wet out there... and unfortunately I blew my left fork seal third time on the bike (3.4 hours)

So the logical thing to do is pull all my stuff and have it valved for me

Suspension is going to Donny at the Pit enterprise in phoenix to get valved and rebuilt using all SKF seals and bushings

Another set of parts showed up today

Works connection radiator braces, SKF low friction wheel bearing, seal and spacer kits

Thanks to Kris @ FCP Racing for the CNC hangers and Titanium mounts to help get some more flex

Great looking bike, really awesome build. In comparison with your 2017 in the handling department, the differences are noticable? Have you noticed anything?

All red plastic looks so sick on a brand new bike. Love it! Is it any different from the 2017 though?

I struggled with suspension settings on my 2017 the entire time I owned it. The forks were really stiff at the top of the stroke and then would blow through the rest of the stroke so I was bottoming out and killing my hands. My issue with the shock trying to get the bike to settle coming into corners while keeping the bike balanced was a real issue for me since i ride the ass end alot. The motor package was really hard off the bottom to mid and I had a hard time getting hooked up and out of dry hard pack corners without dragging brakes.

First day on the 2019 I was very happy with the stock fork setting, plush and the top of the stroke and stiffened up on the mid stroke for a way better overall feel. Handling wise it's night and day difference with the new frame, swingarm and shock setting. It'll handle chatter and stay inline on the entrance to ruts and I can ride the rear wheel way more on flat and dry corners. However the new bike did loose a little front end feel but I'm hoping the FCP mounts gets me the flex and feel I'm looking for. Motor wise I'm really happy with the new mapping that really smoothed out the bottom right off throttle and pulls all the way to the moon with no real big hit so I can get more power to the ground and flow more.

Glad to hear you enjoying it. I found a 2018 model at a great price and I went for it, unfortunately I didn't have the chance to ride it yet to see how it goes, basically it's like 2017 a bit more updated, that's why I asked you about the handling. Thank you for the update!!

Sorry to hear you had issues with your 17, I have heard a lot of people complain about the initial harshness and blowing through stroke but can't say I had many issues with it. Coming off the 2015 model with the atrocious KYB air forks and a shock with a completely useless rebound adjuster, the 2017 suspension feels like ten thousand dollar kit suspension, lol. So glad they went back to spring forks, I bet the coated ones are amazing.

I'm curious as to how a $10k+ Factory Edition motorcycle with A kit suspension blows out a fork seal on a turn track with 3.5 hours on it.

Mud,rock, bad seal? Why do high dollar cars tires have short life span?

we could get blown seals in 5 mins on works stuff or it can last 10 hours just depends on environment . It can very well happen, Rock kick up from inside wheel boom knick in the tube= cut in the seal

Too bad its not A-kit suspension. Its just coating of the forks inside and out. Costs no more then $1300 to have done by Tech Touch. Just ordered it for my self. There is no different valving or different parts. Its identical other then the coatings.

Looks good! Definitely looking for a ride review of the new engine hangers! Also, how was the fitment of the radiator braces?
