Finally got me a bike to build. Picked up a 2007 CRF 250R today. Going to go through everything. Any tips on getting the frame all nice and whiney? Just elbow grease and Scotch Brite pads?

Looks like a clean base to start with. I built one of these last year and love it. For the frame just some WD40 and maroon scotch brite pads should come up nice

Put a 2008 stock cam in it with the valve springs from the 2008 (intake and exhaust springs).
The 2008 cam was a lot better than the 2007 one. A LOT better...

Thanks for the advice! I plan to hopefully start going through it in a couple of weeks and will totally rebuild the engine. I was looking at getting a HotCams cam, but I will take your advice and go with the stock cam. I bought a Cylinder Works 269cc big bore kit and a Wiseco crank kit.

love these bikes, built alot of them dont waste your time on stock vavles

pro x stainless steel intake and exhaust, you can lap them in no need to cut vavle seats.
2008 cam is very good
2005 carb (with mods will be zero bog and snappy)
single pipe makes more power

for the love of god do the crank before it snaps, i cant count how many customers bring these old crfs in with grendaded cranks. if youre lucky it will seize and not snap

13.5:1 piston is a huge step up in power

Do not put a Wiseco crank kit in it....

Send the stock crank to Ken Oconner Racing for a rebuild....
I actually may have a lightened crank for that bike that needs a rod. Let me check... I'll give it to you if I
still have it.

right on, when these bikes are done right htey are amazing!

wiseco cranks are garbage, get a pro x rod and have it rebuilt, oconnor does great work but im siure you can find a local shop to press and true a crankshaft i dont think mailing it around the country is needed.

tokyo mods does fantastic work but holy hell they are expensive,

cut the stock diaphram stopper down, mod the linkage, smaller leak jett, adjustable fuel screw, bam zero bogg runs great. set the timing of the squirt so it just misses the slide. if this is above your level of doing than yea tokyo mods builds a mean carb!

Who sells the single pipe for them? I was originally thinking of going with Rocket Exhaust.

I pretty pumped to find this bike. My last bike was a 2007 KTM 450SXF. Happened to find this one from a guy at work. Most of the used bikes around here are stolen or overpriced.

I can't wait to get running and ride Budds Creek.

Is the Hotcams Stage One Kit okay? I had already purchased it as well. In the process of returning the Wiseco crank. I checked out KOR and he has pretty good pricing and on the same coast. I was thinking about Kibble White valves and spring kit, but damn they're expensive. I might just do the 2008 OEM ones, or Pro-X.

stage 1 is lowend offroad cam if you dont like to rev and like to short shift its a good cam, id run stock cam for now upgrade later to 08 cam or hot cams stage 2 if you want more mid/top, kibblewhite is great but i find over priced, just get the vavle kits from pro x (rmatv has them super cheap) they are bomb proof. oem vavles i cant get more than 30-40 hours out of them when riding mx. the stock steel vavle seats dont like the oem valves.

dr d and fmf do single exhausts for that bike, or use a 04/05 subframe and complete 04-05 single exhaust.

I picked the Stage 1 because I'll probably ride trails more and a little MX. I'm old and big 42, about 230 lbs. I wasn't really looking for a 250 four stroke, it just happened to be available.

How are HotRods cranks? Was thinking about the stoker crank, from what I saw it would put the engine to about 277cc with the Cylinder Works big bore kit.

I did go with the Stage 1 for low end. I’ll probably mostly ride trails. I’ll go with Pro-X valves. Kibble White is outrageously expensive!

Your clutch cable and kill switch cables route look off. Check the manual for proper routing. You could probably find a better bike stand in your local CL.

They are probably not routed correctly. The bucket was all I had the time, I’m getting a better stand. It was a spur of the moment buy.

I paid $2k for it. I really wanted a 250 two stroke or 450 four stroke. Bikes around here are hard to find at good prices unless they’re stolen.

Unfortunately, around here it’s not too much. I wanted a 250 two stroke or 450f. Maybe I paid too much, but I finally got something I could afford.

You guys are awesome, I appreciate all of the advice. I ended up getting Kibblewhite valve kit. I’m spending a lot more on this bike than I had planned, but I will be keeping it for awhile. PTshox, can’t thank you enough.
