Picked up a low hour CR250. Plan to strip it down to the frame, soda blast everything as it’s pretty dirty and stained, freshen up the motor and all new bearings for the frame and get the suspension revalved possibly kashima coated.

I’ve got a scalvini exhaust, pro circuit ti2 muffler, lots of carbon fibre bits to go on. Still trying to decide if I will get a keihin airstryker or keep the mikuni.

Nice workspace. Keihin with Stic block would be my choice.
Are you familiar with Black diamonds Cr250 build?

Thats a nice CR as is. Great find! You can tell its low hours from the minimal shroud rub on upper frame rail. Little piece of clear mtb frame protection tape works in these areas.
Nice operating room!

Thanks. Do you have much experience with the keihin with the stic block and with out?

Yeah very familiar with it, always look at the build for inspiration.

Yeah I was really happy with it. I paid a bit of a premium for it but I could justify it because it hadn’t done much. I also got all the stock parts with it except reed cage and exhaust pipe.

I plan to make it look very similar to my 07 cr125 build I did around 18 months ago.

MX Bons airbox seal kit + Twinair power flow kit with the aluminum cage is the best airbox setup you can get. The airbox seals like to leak the the cages like to flex the combination works well or even just the MX bonz kit.

The fact that you could even find a 05-07 cr250 is impressive enough. I haven't seen one come for sale around me for at least a year, if not more. Except this one... that for some reason I did buy.

Thanks for the tip. I’ve got a the twin air power flow kit on my 125 and we re sealed it our self. I noticed they sell a pipe spacer for a CR250 at mx bons, have you got any experience with that?

There’s a few of them floating around in Australia for sale, it’s just really hard to find them in good condition and most people want big money for them.

Looks like you will have your work cut out to get that one running

Got the bike stripped down ready for some cleaning. Going to have my work cut out as you can see the frame and motor are quite dirty.

Gave the frame a good clean with the pressure washer and a scotch brute pad. Next step will be soda blasting and getting it ready to start to re assemble it.

Had a few more packages arrive but still waiting for more to come through.

New parts look great! I've done a few CR builds myself. They are great bikes. If I could offer some advice though I'd go with a different front rotor setup. I accidentally bought that same front rotor setup and it was crazy heavy compared to the other 270/280 kits out there. Or could just get a stock 260mm rotor off the 15 and up CRFs and get the appropriate YZ bracket to fit it. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, once it’s together I’ll give it a go and see how it is, if it’s like you say I’ll swap it for a 270mm floating. I’ve had good experience with them in the past, just wanted to try something different.

Do you have any advice when it comes to a keihin airstryker swap?

Honestly, I never tried the carb swap. I've always ran a JD jet kit in the stock Mikuni on my CRs and it was perfect. No complaints.

I bought my PWK Airstriker carb new from JD jetting he set it up for my mods and it came with a bunch of extra jets. I didn't need to change the jetting at all and bike runs really crisp. You cannot go wrong with either a Lectron or a Keihen PWK airstriker.

I have not used MX bond pipe spacer

Clear decal will protect your frame from the side panel rub if you don't put something under it it will just get worse

2015 CRF footpeg mounts are a better design and move the pegs up slightly (Feels like it). I have them on mine.

Been a very slow process, only home from work on weekends but I’ve got the frame finished and the swingarm cleaned up. Plan to get new bearings in the swingarm this weekend and finish cleaning up subframe and linkages.

Suspension has been sent off to get kashima coated and I’ve got a set of applied red 22mm offset triple clamps on there way. I’ve sourced an 02 yz250 airstryker that I should get by the end of the week.

Hoping my order of genuine parts will turn up this week so I can put the 2015 footpeg mounts on and my titanium propegs on.

I received a box of oem parts this week so I spent the day fitting a new airbox and air boot together with a mx bonz seal kit. Once that was done I cleaned up the subframe and bolted the airbox in.

I fitted the 2015 CRF footpeg brackets with new hardware, had a slight problem trying to fit the Propegs titanium footpegs in as the oem spring doesn’t fit around the peg correctly. I’ll get my old man to machine a notch so it sits properly. Had to do the same thing when I put these pegs on my 125.

The swingarm received some new pivot works bearings and a new rear brake hose guide, it’s all complete and ready to go.

The keihin airstrker carby came this week, it’s off a 2001 YZ250. It’s been cleaned and soda blasted, it’s ready to be pulled apart and rebuilt. I plan on hooking up the tps on it.

Thanks mate, I just used meguiars hot rims wheel cleaner and maroon scotchbrite pads. My swing arm didn’t require much time or effort to clean up. My frame was a different story. Hope that helps.

Got my artwork back for my build. I’ve gone with more of an 06 look as I prefer it over the 07 and kept it pretty simple. Matt from Motokit has killed it with the design, can’t wait to see it on the bike.

Thanks guys, I’m really happy with how it is progressing. Got a lot done this weekend but not many photos.

Replaced all the linkage bearings, removed the steering stem from the oem triple clamps and put it in the new applied triple clamps, machined a notch in the footpegs so they’ll fit correctly, nickel plated all the linkage bolts, pulled down the brakes and rebuilt the callipers, just waiting on the master cylinder rebuild kits.

Progress has been really slow, started to fit the stickers to the new plastics and apart from that not much else has been touched. Received the Magura Hydraulic Clutch, Honda Racing Clutch cover (other covers are for my CR125) and should have suspension back by the end of the week.

Who supplied the carbon rear shock guard? Good fitment?

Thanks mate, it came from extreme carbon. They are available on eBay and they come from Portugal, as far as fitment goes, it fitted perfectly. I’m yet to see how good it is with the suspension and the wheel in but by the looks of it, it looks to be really good.

Very nice build. Making good progress.

Was going to comment about the carburetor selection, but see that you've already picked up a Keihin.

On a 2005 I had, I liked the Mikuni better than the Keihin after I had the squish corrected. Made a post on TT about it: https://thumpertalk.com/forums/topic/1191880-carburetor-heresy-i-like-m…

But, I have recently installed a STIC into a 2014 KTM 150SX and it made a very noticeable improvement in the top end/over rev. A PWK equipped with the STIC would probably be the best of both worlds on a CR250.

Hey Erik, did you stick with the same main/pilot/needle setting when installing the STIC? I've thought about getting one myself for my 150SX. Power on it is great as is, but like a more 125 style over rev. Currently running the PWK with JD jetting kit on my 18.
