A little history on this thing... bought it a few years back from a kid who couldn’t get it to run when I bought it. I could tell it was not a high hour bike, just beginner crashed/ neglected. The kid said it had an Eric Gorr 144 kit in it but I was a bit skeptical. Tore it down when I got it home and much to my surprise it was indeed a 58mm bore. The reason it wouldn’t run is because the ring had probably a 1/4” end gap... zero compression. The bike came with 2 carbs, a Keihin PWK that was installed and the stock Mikuni. Was jetted ridiculously rich when I got it so I did some digging around and got it running super crisp after rebuilding it. Ended up with a Suzuki NEDG needle and man that thing rips. I put a clutch kit, a hot rods crank and a set of main bearings in it while I had it apart just to freshen it up. Rode it maybe 10 times and then life got in the way so it sat in the corner of my garage for a few years. Recently I’ve gotten back into riding and i have bought another bike so I’m going to tear this one down to the frame and regrease/ rebuild/ do some polishing and ride it a little. Or I may just sell it once I finish. I’ve always just enjoyed wrenching on them so this is just a fun project for me. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Let me know what you think. Here’s the first set of pics. Just tore it down and cleaned the frame up really well with some WD 40 and scotch brite.

Here are some more pics of cleaning/ polishing process. Stock triple clamps cleaned, polished with Dremel and some scotch brite attachments. Went with new bearings since the old were a little “rustic” looking.

Some Tusk 1- 1/8 bar mounts for some Renthal Twinwall 994 bend bars. Rubber cones were in good shape so I’m re using these.

Nice start to your project. We have an '07 that we bought in similar condition (minus the 144 cylinder). These are great handling, durable fast bikes. Perfect for someone looking to do a 125 2-stroke project.

A lot of progress made today since it just poured down rain all day.

Swingarm polished up and cleaned. Removed chain guide and guard and will be replacing those. Went ahead with a new set of bearings/ seals here as well. Removed the chain adjuster bolts to clean and anti-seize before they go back in.

Linkage dogbone greased/ polished and ready to go back on.

Exhaust is almost new so it didn’t need much work but I went ahead and shined up both the expansion chamber and silencer.

Fmf fatty and shorty silencer.

Airbox disassembled, cleaned, and resealed liberally with permatex since I’ve read these don’t seal well from the factory.

Also took the time to polish up the subframe a little with the scotch brite pads.

Topend off just to check and make sure everything I did the first time around is looking good. Still looks brand new so just throwing in a new ring and gaskets. Head gasket is a 58mm straight from EG himself.

Front wheel bearings were a little rough so new ones of those going in... spacers cleaned as well as axle and nut. Slowly but surely. Looking to get the engine back into the frame next.

Shock back from having the oil changed as it had an unknown amount of hours on it. Linkage bearings in great shape. Just repacked with grease and reinstalled after some more polishing.

1st & most important tip for ya! If you want to keep the engine running & in 1 piece, remove that hotrods crank ASAP & get it in the dumpster as quickly as you can! Asking for trouble with a hotrods crank. There has been many a blown out/up engine/case thread of people using them throughout the years. Almost every last one of them went back to oem crank. Other than that, looking good so far. Nice ride, I'm sure it's a blast!

I ran a hot rods crank in a 2006 CR125 for two harescramble seasons and never had a lick of trouble with it.

And finished. It looks like it’s going to have to be sold due to a divorce situation so if anyone is interested message me and I won’t have to deal with Craigslist 😅 I’m in the South Carolina area but don’t mind meeting someplace. Bike will come with the stock Mikuni carb, airbox wash cover, brand new never used oversized tank if interested in hare scrambles, cycra skid plate and a spare shifter.
