I came across this 05 this week and couldn’t pass it by. I love messing with these 125s. I was going to post the picture of this one and my 04 125 as the transition as a joke but it wouldn’t get past you guys. So here’s my new project. I have been leaning towards a full stock restoration. I like the clean look of a stock 04/05. I may run it as a woods bike in the mean time, who knows. It needs some love but it’s overall a decent find. I will actually post pictures of this build and it’s tear down process. Ideas are welcome! Here is my 2004 as well

Finally got around to tearing the 125 down. I’ve decided to do a stock restoration with a few parts of my liking so not a straight out of the crate 2005. I will be cleaning and replacing several parts. I will go ahead and go through the entire motor since while it’s down. Should I go own on all internals or any of the aftermarket companies just as good? This is my first true tear down and rebuild now that I have room to work on a bike so this will be a learning process. I will post many pictures and it will be time consuming to collect parts. Any pointers/advice welcome!

Oooof! She's nasty! I prefer oem for most parts on a rebuild. I have had bad luck with fitment otherwise. This one is going to clean up nice. I just picked up an 05 KX125 as well. Going to tear into it after enjoying it this summer.

Good luck on the build. The Kawi's I thought where always the best looking 2 stroke personally...

If you need help with graphics to finish this thing off, give me a shout. @ HM Design Moto on IG and FB.

Thanks man! It’s a 40x60. With 3 12x12 doors. Figure did go as big as the money would let me.

Having trouble getting this front linkage bolt out. I’ve given it the hammer treatment after letting it soak overnight but no avail yet. Any ideas fellas?

Try heating the bolt with a torch. Its corroded most likely. Heat should expand the bolt and break up the corrosion bond. Then pound it out. I have always have good results in this situation.

Look at all the kawis nice! I’ve had luck with heat and air hammer sometimes too. Sometimes vibration works and sometimes a heavy blow (hit) works. Looking good man and I love the shop!

Finally have most of the parts collected for this build. I have a buddy that has a vapor blaster and a cerakote/powder coat hook up so it will all be going to him soon. This will be a stock”ish” 2005 restoration build. Clearly not a crate 2005 build but close with parts that I like.

Beauties!
What is the plan for the finish on the frame?
I'm leaning towards the RAW look with a clear, but stoked to see what others are going with now on builds

We got into the good stuff today.. found a Namura piston and a hot rods crank dancing around in the bottom end. Thinking about going with the Athena cylinder kit(staying stock) because an OEM cylinder and head alone are outrageous. What’s y’all’s thoughts on this? Also, I am hunting an OEM crank. Any suggestions where I might can find one. I’ve got a Hinson clutch basket, hub, and clutches on the way as well

What year front fender and number plate do you have on the finished one? I picked up an 03 kx250 a few days ago and have been looking around for what newer fender and number plate looks the best.

its a 2013-2016 front fender and number plate on the 2004. I think they look the best when going updated look. The 2005 I'm building will have an oem front fender and number plate.

IMG 8658.jpeg?VersionId=4eybrLKnAg24y1 Well fellas I’m finally getting around to posting the near completion post. It’s been wrapped up for a while now but I had a newborn on my hands. I’m working out a few kinks here and there and also searching for a good set of oem shroud decals. Once some of the kinks are worked out, I hope to get it out snd stretch her legs in the next couple of weeks.

*It is only letting me post one picture? I’ll try and upload more pictures of the build.

Why is it only letting me post one picture per reply. It only gives me the option to add one image. Am I the only one having this problem?

Bike looks great!  When I upload pics I just hit the little image box and add one photo then hit save and space down under that photo and then add another. Then all photos will be on the same post.
