They are a little heavier but they hold up really well. $550 for a complete set of wheels is pretty nice lol.

Anywhere near that is a great deal from what I have seen! Yeah it’s the first I’ve owned but the 04 was the route I decided to go after a lot of research (with the help of Matt haha). And I was lucky enough to find one that was vet owned and was built by Will at Lightspeed. So it is really clean and has SSS forks already on it with some carbon fiber goodies. It’ll be a great bike for me! And yeah I remember seeing the bike when you got it now. Guess I shoulda went back and lookedLaughing Yeah I am sure I would get carried away too so it’s best for the bank account if I do a little at a time haha. She’s beautiful so far! You gonna stick with the restyle then or go with the 04 reed replica still now that you’re further in? Here’s mine!
That’s a great base to start with, you’ve already got the SSS forks on there and some carbon so that’s saved you plenty of money already! Money you can put towards towards other stuff obviously Smile haha
It’s very easy to get carried away when you start seeing all these nice parts come up for sale!
I’m gonna stick with the restyle now, I’ve had the graphics made up just waiting for my friend to send them out to me.
He’s made me a carbon fuel cap and carbon exhaust mount so he’s going to send them out wit the graphics Smile

Yeah definitely saved me some money! I was lucky to find this one. I definitely will be putting the money elsewhere haha. Exactly! I saw PC had a closeout sale on their 04 triple clamps back in June or July for $275 for a complete set. I missed out because they are all sold out of the lowers now! That's awesome man. I cant wait to see how she turns out. Your build is definitely an inspiration for mine!

Hey man, thanks a lot! A friend of mine makes custom graphics so I told him what I wanted and he made them for me, I’m really happy with how they came out Smile

Nice looking bike! I was considering a similar project this spring, but I couldn't find a reasonably priced core. I couldn't get the aluminium frame yz250 to handle to my liking, and I've been told that the steel frame yz`s handle better.

Thanks man! It took me a little while to find one because i really wanted the last year of the steel frame which was 2004, the last era of the steel frames are getting harder and harder to find.
I think a lot of it is down to personal preference but most people seem to agree that the steel framed YZ’s handle a lot better than the aluminium frames.

So the bike is complete, only thing I’m waiting for is a Pro Circuit fuel cap vent pipe.
Weathers been terrible here and today we finally had a bit of sun so thought I’d take the chance to grab some pictures of the finished product! Smile

Cheers mate appreciate it! I used a combination of a few things to clean the parts... Dremel, WD40, green scotchbrite.
The engine cases and head were all vapour blasted Smile

A little late to the party, but had a similiar experience. Have ridden a few YZ250's dating back to a 92 model (a friends bike at the time) to an 11 model owned. The 02 & 04 steel framed YZ's owned handled better to me in comparison to 06, 09 & 11 models owned as well. The 05+ AF has a bad rigidity feel to it that I didn't jive with.

Same here, I tried to pick up a low hr. all original (chain, sprockets, tires etc..) 04 model at the beginning of the summer, but the owner was asking $3,600. For CA I think $2,800 - $3K would have been reasonable.

NICE! Think my next build is a YZ 125, got a few bikes to sell first.
