Nice build, crazy deal with dying the tank. I’ve never seen that before!
Yah it’s a pretty cool when it actually works. My dad and I dyed his fork plastics on his bike and they came out really good, but this tank was a different story. I had seen a bunch of people dye their blue tanks black and it came out really good so I guess it’s just the yellow doesn’t take it very well.

For being a younger dude(or any age really) you're doing an awesome job. Fun thread.

Appreciate it man, It’s been a lot of fun to do this build. I thought I would have this bike completely done by now, but I think now that the engine is done I can get this bike done pretty soon!

Cool thread. My 13 year old wants to find a KX125 for a rebuild. He's heading to high school this Fall (assuming it's open!) so maybe we can do this together as a project for him.

So originally I wanted to get aftermarket clutch/ignition covers, but I decided to try truck bed liner spray for a temporary look.

They’re not perfect but they’re good enough. I might re-spray the ignition cover.

I'm a bit late to your party, but it looks really nice!
When reassembling the transmission, I hope you looked at the gears really good. 2nd gear on the early 2000's was like butter. When you get it running, if it pops out of 2nd gear under power, that's the culprit. Been there.

Thanks man! Yah my dad and I took the whole transmission apart a couple of times and looked at the diagrams to make sure all the parts were there and were in good condition and it was put together correctly. I’m hoping this thing starts right up/runs good and doesn’t have problems with the gears!

If you have a tig welder or know a guy that can tig weld you should be able to weld a piece of filler rod to it and turn it right out with ease. It works really well, we have the welder at our shop do it all the time when bolts break off in cases and such.

Sweet build BTW!

Appreciate it! Unfortunately I don’t have a tig welder, but I’m gonna try drilling it out with a carbide end mill and hopefully that works.

Well I want to get some aftermarket covers but we’ll see what the budgets looking like. It will probably wear off from the boot rub but I can just easily re-spray it.

Clarke Racing absolutely hooked us up!!! They sent me this awesome OEM sized black gas tank for the build and it looks a hell of a lot better than the tank I tried to dye.
Can’t wait to see this on the bike!

Nice work man this is looking really good! Broken drill bits can be tough to get out for sure. I usually get a nut and hit the center of the broken bolt and fill in the nut with a mig welder, but you do need a mig welder.. But oh man quality drill bits are a must and don’t go high speed with light pressure or side pressure. I too am impressed with your drive to take on a project like this good work! On side covers with raised lettering I have painted them then used a die grinder with roloc disc to just make the top of the letters bare again.

Thank you! It’s been a fun project so far, but it’s taken a lot longer than I thought it would. For the cover I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it. I’ve seen people just sand it off on a flat surface, but I kind of like it all black.

Hey if you don’t end up getting it out I have a spare hub you can have. Let me know and pm me I would be happy to give it to you.

I think I might powder coat the triple clamps black. The EVO grey looks good, but it just doesn’t look right to me with the black frame.

Pretty much have finished powder coating all the parts I’ve wanted too except the shock spring. I also got ride of some little cast marks I didn’t catch the first time on the triple clamps and then powder coated the clamps ink

Not much progress lately, but hoping to get some done this weekend.

Thought this was a cool picture. These steering stem races were an absolute pain in the butt to get out so I ended up having to cut them out with a dremel.

For some reason when I try to go to the second page it says 500 error and it’s been like that for at least a month. I’ve sent them an email but still no response. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
