Well, Recently I sold my 2016 yz250 and I really miss that bike. So last weekend I purchased this Metal mulisha clapped out 2002 yz250 for $1300 . Bike is actually not so bad. Engine ,frame, radiators, exhaust is in good shape and everything else will get replaced anyway. Since I ride Ktm and I really like the steal frame so I chose yz250 with the steal frame. I remember I had 01 and 05 yz250 back in the days and I did like 01 better.

Nice. Interesting its got the 96-01 tank/shroud setup. Maybe your FMX previous owner oculd only find a black tank in the older shape and made it work.

Man, I've been considering going this route for my personal bike. A good friend I ride Harley's with recently bought an '01 YZ250 frame and (surprisingly) running motor and is just building it up from scratch. If you can sift through all the bro's and their infinite wisdom on how they "know what this is worth" even though their listing says "$4500 FIRM lowballers don't waste your time", occasionally you can find sellers out there that aren't delusional on asking price.

This will be interesting, I also ride KTM and have been looking for a 2T for Winter practice/fitness.

Been looking at the Alloy frame YZ 250's, then been reading a lot about the steel frame bikes and lots of different opinions on both for good and bad, so will be keeping an eye on this one.

Why did you sell your 16'?.

Good luck with your build!.

Frame is back from powder coding, looking good. Thanks to powder code industry. Time to start to build the bike,I have almost all the parts for it already just missing foot pegs and couple little thinks.

Glide plate installed, Works connection.

Sandblasted swing arm . The original powder coding on the swing arm looked really bad. Enzo rebuilt and dialed the shock.

This was fun budget built. No Kashima coding and expensive carbon blink blink parts or hard to find works parts , none of that will make any difference on the track for me anyway. Bike come out great and I kept it reasonable price range . This is no garage queen I built to ride it. I kind of want to prove it that I can build bad ass bike for less than $3500 . Mission accomplished total cost $3250. Bike cost $1300 and total parts cost , powder coding and suspension work included $1950.

xr70, awesome build. I'm an 02' YZ owner myself, and you've given me a lot of inspiration. First off, thank you for not powder coating the swingarm black. I love the black frame, but I think people go overboard by doing the swing arm, as well. Leaving it natural is a nice contrast.

Secondly, what kind of frame guards are those? They look like the regular plastic ones that you've applied grip tape to. Is that the case?

|

11/9/2017 8:03 AM

Thanks guys I am glad that you like it .

Thanks man , I like the swingarm just plain also . Powder coding on swingarm will look bad specially after couple rides. The frame guards are just the $25 plastic ones with some grip tape and I cut them down .

Will the '02 tank and shrouds bolt right on an '00 frame?

|

if you're gonna be dumb, you better be tough

The tanks have different mounting points. You would have to have them welded on and cut the old ones off.

To update the look of it, in order from easiest to hardest:
Front fender and number plate
Gas tank and shrouds
Rear fender and number plates

The rear end requires extensive modding and welding of the subframe to accomplish.

If you're not mixing gas, you're not haulin ass.

wow that looks killer!

|

11/9/2017 5:12 PM

Awesome work man!

Looks killer. Love the CRF front end too..

I did a similar job to my 02 125, went almost the same route as you. Black frame, black wheels, new graphics (went with a Reedy 2004 replica for the new shape plastic).

Just installed oversize Rads on mine now.

Cool ride man, well done. Enjoy!

That bike looks awesome. Great job on the build. I have a 02 yz 250 that i got at the same time as a 02 crf450. I only rode it in one class for the Florida motocross series and the 450 in 2 classes. Basically only raced it 12 races and barely a couple rides at the practice track and actually the first ride on them was at a race. Lol It was an awesome bike but the 450 was a new machine and i was learning it so i rode it mostly. I put the YZ in storage after the banquet and never touched it again. Its in my garage now but already hidden in corner but still looks new. I have wanted to get her running but i have not been riding for awhile for once in my life and it sucks. Someday soon.

I don't have to be as smart as you hope to be some day anymore. wink

2. Any pics of said rear end work please?.

Again, awesome work.
