Over the weekend I found a 1997 CR 125 for pretty cheap. I went to look at it and the guys tells me the clutch is messed up, well I wish that was the case.....

After getting the bike home I went ahead and tore the bike apart. The c clip has came out of the wrist pin, and I'm pretty sure there is a bearing out of the transmission. The motor was locked up until I loosened the nut that holds the clutch basket in. It now spins freely but is really noisey. Good thing parts are cheap for this.

So, the plan for the bike is to build a tribute to the 1994 Honda of Troy bikes. I have sent the frame out to get coated, and I have started cleaning everything up. Out of the 20ish bike I've had the last few years this is the first Honda that I've owned.

Good luck with the motor, sounds like it’ll be a sweet build.

Looking forward to seeing this build. I’ve gathered parts for the same build for about a year now. I even got lucky and found Craig Decker’s 1994 jersey. Just need time and space to put it together.

I have a complete 1996 with Zero hours on the motor (Ported&Polished) after a full rebuild (OEM internals) & a 1994 Roller to pair with it. 3 PC pipes 2 PC silencers & plenty more to go around. Message me if you are intersted, I'd wanna sell both as a package and ALL the hinda parts I have to go with it.

Have fun with this build, they are really cool.

Also, I have HOT notes from one of the factory mechanics on the motor setup they were running too

I was able to work on the bike a little over the weekend.

After looking everything over and trying to find some parts, I think I'm going to go a different route with this bike. I built my KX as a bike that a privateer would have rode in 1993, I think I'm going to build this bike the same way. This way I can build the bike how I would have like to have it if I was racing in the mid-90's.

I made a small amount of progress over the weekend. A few more pieced and the chassis will be complete, graphics, seat covers and wheels. I'm still not sure what my plan is for graphics.

I also split the cases to see what the issue was. I found a destroyed water pump gear and the bearing in the case behind the clutch was split and missing a few balls.

Gonna be a beautiful bike. If I may ask, what hand guards are you using?

The hand guards are a set of NOS Acerbis ones that I found on eBay. They are actually GYTR Yamaha ones, but everything worked ok. The only thing that's different is the way the front brake line attaches to the master cylinder so where the hand guard should zip tie to the front brake line it doesn't.

As far as I know it's the stock 97 air box

Your right! My mistake. For some reason I was thinking the 97 has a white air box..

Thanks for responding. I appreciate it. They reminded me of these is why I was curious.

The bike is slowly but surely coming together. Last weekend I rebuild the bottom end, and put it back in the frame. I need to send the cylinder off to be refinished but I couldn't resist not putting it on and seeing what the bike would look like with the pipe. Really all that is left to do is tires, graphics, and fix the cylinder.

I ordered a purple and white Tecnosel seat cover from Italy, I'm hoping it shows up next week.

Keep up the build, it will be a nice ride. Got my 125 1997 rebuilded. This winter i have to get the frame coated, build some nice wheels for it and a graphic kit with seat cover. Overal it is a low hour cr125!

Slowly making progress on the bike. I have graphics ordered and the seat cover installed. I have quite a few parts ordered just waiting for them to show up. Tires, a few bolts, graphics, purple shrouds and NOS red UFO handguards.
The only parts that I should have left to buy is a silencer, piston and to have the cylinder recoated. I would love to have an old school PC silencer with a stinger for the build is someone has one they don't want an arm and a leg for.
I will decide what color shrouds once my graphics arrive.

Slowly making progress. Number plate background should be here this week, trim graphics are ordered. Now I just need to have the cylinder repaired, purchase a piston and silencer. I'm thinking about getting a full carbon Bud Racing silencer for the bike.

Fwiw I wasn't impressed with the bud carbon can. Its pretty chincy. If it were me, id spring a little extra cash for the bills mx2 carbon for that bike

The bike is pretty much complete. I found an old PC silencer with a stinger on eBay and purchased it. I have some tuning to do to the bike and I'm waiting on the remainder of the graphics to come. Now all I need is a few more cool period correct add ons for it.

I think the two bikes look pretty cool together.

It's been awhile since I've given an update on this bike. Not that much has changed, new clutch, black rad hoses, purple rims, Applied top triple clamp, original Answer/Easton Pro Taper bars with bar pad. I wish the bar pad wasn't blue, when I bought it the pad looked black. I know these pads are hard to find but does any body have one laying around they would want to sell? Only things I have left to do to the bike is fender decals, air box decals and maybe a glide plate if I can find one.

Do you need a pipe and silencer?

I have a PC Factory pipe that was just vapor blasted and a R-304 Shorty with about two rides on it

It is an extra system for me, I do not need it any longer

PM me for info or email at vanartsenk@gmail.com

I actually have a full PC system on the bike. I just need to clean it up some. Thanks for the offer.

Would you be interested in selling that handlebar pad?
