Not cheaper, but I recommend DC plastics for the chain slider.

Your doing some nice work Brian. It’s a lot of work I know, but we’ll worth it in the end. I’m following. Keep it up it’s going to be an awesome machine when your done. Put the finishing touches on mine and jetted it properly. Like I said... these old bikes are worth your time.

Yes, I used a wire wheel on my bench grinder a lot when rebuilding my '87. The dremel is nice for tight areas but too slow for big parts.

I agree, I used a wire wheel on the bench grinder when I can. I would like to get a 3m wheel for the bench grinder too. I have one for my drill.

Maybe someone here has a better view. I have never taken the stator apart.

This is a terrible pic, but you can see the spring coming up that attaches to the clutch lever. It only has one place to attach at the bottom. I have a better pic on the iPad if you need. Everything is easily accessible by only taking the stator cover off. No need to disassemble anything

Well if it makes you feel better today I tried to put in new clutch plates. The basket was badly grooved. I had to spend time filing it.

So I think I have that fixed as long as it works. Now I had to order the darn tool to hold the basket to tighten the darn bolt.

You wouldn’t think possible, but you can simply squeeze the clutch plates with your fingers while you tighten the nut. May take two people, but it works. I had my daughter squeeze the plates while I tightened. When I took the nut off with an impact gun, I just held the plates with my fingers..... it works

Be careful the basket fingers are pretty fragile. I learned that the hard way.

From what I have read smoothing the grooves out works but if there is too much play the basket will wear quicker next time.

Well done! I was too lazy to take it there. I just hit mine with a wire wheel.

I hope to put the engine back in the frame as soon as I put the new reed valves and manifold on.

Got the engine back in the frame. Also, cleaned up the foot peg springs and painted the foot pegs.
