I just bought a 2009 yz250f swingarm to put on my 2004 yz250, I read on another thread something about having to mod and/or the frame to get the newer style linkage to fit.I'm just seeing if anyone here knows anything about the swap to a steel frame. I got a 09 swingarm, complete linkage, and 25mm axle on the way. I also plan on getting an 09 hub. Also will a complete brake setup (master cylinder, caliper, caliper mount) from the newer 2009-2019 4-strokes bolt onto my yz250 2stroke?

You can swap your existing brake assy over to the new larger axle brake carrier without replacing all of it.

My rear brake sucks, so I want to buy a newer 09+ complete brake setup, if it will bolt on.

So my buddy did this swap but his was a 05 yz 250... he took the brake, shock, linkage, wheel, pretty much the whole ass end off the yzf and put on his yz.. we read that it needed shims or that it was offset but we didn’t do any of that bolted straight up and he had been riding it for about a year and no signs of weird wear/rubbing yet so

That's for the aluminum frame.

I've always wondered if this could be done on the 02-04 Steel Frames. Does anyone know if this swap has been confirmed before on a steel frame?

I have seen a steel frame 2 stroke with a 09+ 4 stroke arm, it was an old thread. He said something about the bolt that connects the linkage to the frame was smaller, so in order for me to use the 09+ 4 stroke link I would have to make some kind of sleeve's to fill in the gap between the bolt and frame. I also read if I use my stock linkage it will bolt up, but sit a little low.

Got the swingarm today, cleaned up great very happy with it. I got the 09 swingarm, linkage, axle, blocks, and brake mount for $215. Now all I need is the hub bearings/seals, and spacers... i think? Lol. I also plan on switching to tubliss and installing the lightest tire I can find.

thought i would update this thread.

I have just replaced the suspension etc on my 2003 yz250 with 2009 yz250f forks, swing arm, shock etc. (everything but frame and motor)

Problems are.
1. shock/swingarm link arm from the 09 did not fit the 03 frame. But the 03 fit.(the 03 arm is a little longer.)
2.steering stops work but could do with some beefing up.
3.I changed the complete rear brake setup. the 2009 pedal did not fit had to use the 03 pedal.(09 hit the side case)

Thats About it.

If i remember i will do a ride report to compare.
