Vital MX Pit Bits: Southwick 2008 1

Saturday at Southwick provided a few surprises. Josh Grant topped the time charts among the 250cc competitors, with Ryan Dungey and newly crowned National Champ (for the third time), Ryan Villopoto.

Among the 450cc competitors, James Stewart once again topped the speed charts, but this time around he was followed by Dutchman Marc de Reuver, who's aboard a factory Honda, and well-known for his speed on sandy tracks. Marc was about two seconds off Stewart's pace, but over a second ahead of Andrew Short.

Speaking of Shorty, he's trying to take over second in the final standings from Timmy Ferry, and will be working on the six-point deficit on Sunday.

The women's first moto also had their first visit for the WMA on Saturday, and you can check out that coverage in a seperate gallery.

Be sure to check back on Sunday for full coverage of the action, both for the the second moto of the WMA, and all four motos of AMA Championship Motocross action.
