Vital MX Pit Bits: Lakewood 2007

Welcome to the second half of the 2007 AMA National Motocross season, and the power-robbing altitude and hot temperatures of Thunder Valley MX in Lakewood, Colorado.

The good news is, there's not much in the way of an injury report from Saturday. As per usual, James Stewart skipped Saturday's practice session and is reportedly still very sore following last week's practice crash that kept him out of action at Unadilla, but he's ready to give it a go on Sunday. Grant Langston (who was third-fastest among the 450s) also took a digger on Saturday in Lakewood, but escaped relatively unscathed except for a scrape that parallels the scar he received from collarbone surgery earlier this year.

This one will undoubtedly be a tuner's nightmare, with the high altitudes that hurt the performance of even the big 450s, and with temperatures expected to be well into the 90s, which could cause a return of some of the fuel boiling issues that teams have seen here in the past. We know of at least one team that will keep their fuel tanks will-chilled until the last possible moments before heading to the starting line.

You can check out the photos that caught our eye from Saturday's practice and qualifying sessions by clicking the link above, and don't forget to check back following Sunday's racing for a full recap.

If you want to talk about anything you've read, seen or watched in here, you can do it in the Vital MX Forums.
