Memorial Day weekend always features classic motorsports events, and the 31st annual High Point National should be no exception. Makita Suzuki's Ricky Carmichael set a blistering pace in Saturday's practice and qualifying session, about two seconds faster than Monster Energy Kawasaki's James Stewart. To be fair, though, James sat out most of the second practice round after a hard crash on the finish line jump. Look or James and RC to do battle on Sunday, though, as James appeared to be all right.

While RC And James battle it out up front, Timmy Ferry and Grant Langston have a group of their own in the 2:08 range, while Andrew Short, Mike Alessi, David Vuillemin, Kevin Windham, Jeff Alessi and Davi Millsaps have a pretty big group in the 2:10 – 2:12-second range. That's where the real racing should happen on Sunday.

In the Lites class, the two guys who traded moto wins last weekend, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto and Ben Townley, were once again atop the time charts. If there's any rain tomorrow (and there's supposed to be a chance of scattered thunderstorms, though Saturday was dry), look for Jason Lawrence to step up. He was very quick in the first timed practice, which was much muddier than the second round.
