Vital MX Pit Bits: Daytona Supercross 3

Check out the latest from the world center of speed, Daytona Speedway!

Daytona Speedway! It's bike week, it was warm out, it was sunny and beautiful! There was a ton to shoot an so much to drool over. New kits, lots of tech, crazy graphics, some NASCAR inspiration, new jobs, and more. Take a dive into the latest Pit Bits and enjoy, it's a big one.

The Twisted Tea/Progressive/HEP Suzuki team has come out swinging at Daytona with a bike design that just screams 90's.

That's bright.

Little closer look.

The helmet too.

The Phoenix Racing Honda team has rolled up with a new semi this season...well, a new to them. It's actually that last new semi that JGR had built and used for two seasons before their team sadly had to close its' doors.

How many wheels do you need? A lot when you're running a four rider team on one coast.

Who here loves gold wheels on Hondas?

Mobile wheel station.

Moto Clown Designs whiped up some fresh 6D helmets for the Phoenix team and hand delivered them to the race.

Back view with each rider's numbers and logos/names.

The team's Phoenix logo looks pretty sweet on these lids.

Loaded down and ready.

The team has Kyle Peters' Arenacross championship machine on display this weekend.

Ex-JGR crew member Mitchell Key has been with the Phoenix operation for a couple years now. Him and Dean Baker head up the engine duties for the team, plus they take turns hitting the races to support the team and watch over the engines/electronics.

Very sano carbon rear brake master cylinder guard for the Phoenix crew.

GET wireless hour meter.

Go fast button?

Tom Malaska handles the head duties for the team and some camshaft input, while Dean Baker is in-house and takes care of mapping, piston design, electronics, cranks, and more.

Billet lugs from KYB.

Data acquisition port.

Who's knee brace could this be?...

Crowd favorite Coty Schock. Fun fact, my pops came up with the Cougar Bait nickname.

More fresh Bell lids! Here's the latest for Cooper Webb.

Another view.

The back...AirTrix kills these Red Bull lids.

Captain America or Chase Sexton?

We'd like a pair of those red Tech 10s, please...

Arenacross team owner, racer, graphics guy, wrench, and all-around good guy. That's Jeff Crutcher.

It feels like it's been a bit since we've seen a Pro Circuit bike rocking red plates.

The red fading off on top to the front fender tip.

Justin Hopson has been Jordon Smith's practice mechanic for ten years now and has jumped up to full practice and race duty for 2022 Supercross series.

A proper way to torque the rear-end of the machine.

Another look at the Firepower Honda's HGS exhaust system.

While the HRC squad is running cast/production lugs with their Showa kit suspension, the Firepower squad is still rocking the forged lugs that usually come with this kit setup.

Neken triple clamps onboard the Firepower bikes, but with solid bar mounts, not the SFS system.

That's attention to detail with the cut up logo over the transponder holder.

Electric water pump aboard the Firepower bike, which is held on by a 3D printed mount that Twisted Development came up with.

Twisted Development covers the engine duties for the team.

Team manager, riding coach, clicker changer, note taker, and more. Martin Davalos is helping run the Firepower Honda team this year and from what we've heard, he's killing it. Congrats on the career after racing Marty!

You wouldn't normally see this as the goggle strap covers the MM25 license plate.

DO IT FOR DALE!

Some Earnhardt Sr. inspired boots for Eli Tomac.

We hadn't noticed this before, the Star guys have majorly reinforced the top chain roller on their subframes. Or they're looking for some extra grip area for the riders boots.

Kitchen and J-Mart's bikes feature these engine mounts from WCL that are more cutout than what Star has used the past few seasons.

While Craig's bike has the smaller hole design they traditionally run.

We've seen a lot more tire grooving in the 250 class this year for Dunlop supported programs.

Kitchen is the first rider we've noticed running Pro Taper's new ACF handlebar.

The Star program is no longer associated with Specialized bicycles and now rocks branding from Yamaha's own e-bike line.

The Star Yamaha team is very focused on keeping their bikes light, so when you see their machines not running titanium sprocket bolts...that tells you there's a concern on the team's side with that part.

Mode switch on the handlebars for J-Mart.

Stashed in the bar pad for Kitchen.

Fresh cut for Roczen.

Retro-ish setup for O'Neal racers this weekend.

FXR dropped another extensive LE line this weekend while the ClubMX team goes six riders deep for Daytona.

TEAM.

HA!

Hmm, some old stands hanging out in the ClubMX rig, which was priorly the Geico Honda semi.

Tale of three bikes...Ken Roczen has swapped back to the HRC clamps from the X-Trig triple trees we just saw him rocking prior rounds.

While Chase Sexton started the weekend on the X-Trigs, but ultimately swapped back to the HRC clamps before race time on Saturday.

While the 250 program for the Lawrences have not veered away from the factory option, at least that we've seen at the races.

Little less graphics, little less weight.

Small differences here but Ken Roczen runs a ribbed seat cover...

While Jett Lawrence's has some thickness to his ribs to make mini humps.

While Chase Sexton goes for a regular gripper cover, sans ribs.

Little Michael Jordan inspired #23 logo on Sexton's stand.

More new gear for Jett Lawrence.

Now that's cool.

Jett's or Kenny's? Bets?

The Rockstar Husky guys got their own new pit cart just a couple rounds ago.

The KTM version that Custom Upfits originally made.

The Husky one was also made by them, but features a top lid instead of exposing the tools up there.

These folding pit carts are the more common route we see for most teams. Phoenix and Star 450 pictured here.

While the SGB team has a Custom Upfits cart as well.

Pro Circuit Kawasaki.

BarX's, which was Chaparral/FXR Honda's prior...which we had gotten from JGR who originally got it from RCH!

Lastly, HRC on the left and TLD on the right.

The grand daddy of them all, the big boss in town, the Monster Energy Kawasaki pit cart.

Made in-house at Kawasaki's race shop... Pit board slot, drawers with all the needed tools...

Nicely organized spare wheels.

Impacts on each side and easy to access.

Custom made folding stand on top.

Bottom level slideouts have become very common in the latest moto race trailers, giving the crews plenty of room during indoor builds, more areas for kitchens and work areas to be side-by-side and more depending on the layout. The latest Yamaha and Kawasaki trailers have the longest slides we've seen but there's still a small difference. Primarily, Yamaha's isn't as deep and is a "lighter" version of the slide. Check Kawi's for comparison.

As you can see, the Kawasaki slide is much deeper, coming out of the trailer further and creating even more space inside.

Jerry Robin's latest themed setup. Dale Earnhardt Sr. was one of the if not the most popular NASCAR drivers of all time but he was also the most winningest driver at the Daytona Speedway with 34 total wins across all the classes and versions of races at the track. He only won the Daytona 500 once however, in 1998, and his death was sadly at the track in 2001.

Do it for Dale. With AP7 out, someone had to do it.

Last look.

Water, please.

Remember the toolbox we showed you last week? We took a little video tour of this week...check back on the site for the full video a little later this week.

Carbon fiber t-handle holder? Check. Titanium t-handles? Check.

A look at the Monster Energy Stay Yamaha Racing 450 team semi.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's hospitality semi/250 truck.

Early morning touch up before pulling in on Friday.

Sadly, Max Vohland's bike still sits idle but we took a min to check it out.

Looking for a bit more air on Vohland's machine. This isn't just a cutout sideplate so we'd imagine this will be an accessory item for the newest KTM soon.

MCR team owner Mike Genova jumped into action to move a stray tough block back into place after we all waited a few minutes for no flaggers to correct the issue...

Ken Roczen's press day kit.

Carbon tank? Naw, just a cover.

Ti-Lube has a new wensite.

The Ti-Lube Honda team is one of the last if not the last Supercross team rocking Hoosier tires. It'll be interesting to see where the brand has up their sleeve for their moto product over the next year or two.

The red spacer behind the water pump housing allows for a larger water pump impeller while utilizing the stock housing.

RICK!

Custom Froth Fly Racing helmets for the Firepower Honda team.

We swear that Alex Martin's pegs get a little taller every time we see them...

Yay or nay on Anderson's kit this weekend?

Mitchell Oldenburg's helmet.

Cameron McAdoo's custom Bell Moto 10.

The SGB Unlimited Honda team has three 250 racers on East coast and the top performer so far has been Jeremy Hand.

HRC inspired graphics.

Race Tech taking care of the motor work for their CRF250Rs, plus FMF exhausts and Hinson clutches.

Come back soon Schock Rocket! See ya all next week!
