Vital MX Pit Bits: Dallas Supercross Practice

Texas Stadium, with its semi-enclosed roof, has always provided an interesting venue. In the event of wet weather, the open center section covers the seats, providing dry conditions for the spectators. But it also leaves the field of play, whether for the Dallas Cowboys or this weekend’s Supercross track, vulnerable to the elements.

Fortunately, Dirt Wurx had anticipated the possibility of wet weather for the 29th edition of the Dallas Supercross, and the crew had finished the track early, wrapping it in plastic until Saturday afternoon. That was fortunate, considering a couple solid days worth of bad weather late in the week, including tornado warnings and heavy rain. The weather not only provided for the possibility of a mud race, but also wreaked havoc on air travel into and out of DFW.

Saturday’s practice program was limited to one round for each group, and once the track was unwrapped, riders found it slippery, but not nearly as bad as it had been in previous races in the Big D, when rain made the track a sloppy mess.
