E-Bash Update: Hangtown 3

By Elizabeth Bash

I told you guys that I would be back with an update from every national this year, and this past weekend was Round 1 of the WMX series at Hangtown near the big city of Sacramento, CA. My mom and I packed up the van and drove up on Thursday. Let's just say it was a girl’s road trip, and I have never sung that much in my whole life. We arrived in Sacramento and instead of going to the hotel, we decided to go do a little shopping. Thank God for the good discounts that Kohl’s has, because my mom and I spent a LOT of money.

Friday was the first time that I went to the track and met my new team (TISCO RACING) and teammates. I was a little nervous but they made my feel like I was part of the team already. I did all the things that I needed to do and then it was time to pick up my boyfriend Charles and my little brother Cameron from the Airport. We ate dinner at Outback and then went to bed.

I woke up Saturday Morning and was ready to go and just wanted to get out there in practice and learn the track and put in some fast laps. The track builder added a few drop-off jumps that you had to attack, or you were going to crash and burn. I had a little issue in practice but managed to pull off and place tenth in the qualifying times.

All 30 girls lined up for the first moto not knowing how they were going to stack up against the other girls. I knew going into the moto that I have a really fast bike thanks to the motor that Eleven 10 Mods built. When the gate dropped I got a fifth place start and rode really tight the first moto and ended up eighth. Ashley Fiolek, Jessica Patterson and Tarah Gieger were on it the first moto and I knew that they were going quite a bit faster than me. I had a pretty good battle with Balbi that lasted only a few laps until I picked it up and pulled away.

I came off the track and went over a few things that needed to be changed before moto two. I can’t thank my boyfriend Charles enough for making sure my bike was clean and ready. Oh yeah it was also his 25th Birthday.

The second moto came quickly, and I again tried to focus on getting a good start and just ride to the of best my ability. I came around the first turn around sixth, and made a pass on Sara Price, who fell going down the straightaway and got in fifth and just was strong the whole moto and ended up getting fourth. I was very happy with my weekend because I made it out safe and with no injuries and was in sixth in points.

I think that the people that worked the track wanted to see the track get as rough as it could be so that it would make for some better racing. And for us girls, we are put at the end of the schedule so that means that all the boys can beat up the track and then we go out and race on it. I’m ready for Texas to come in a few weeks and I know what I need to work on to make me faster.
