Big Air: Over The So. Cal. Supercross Tracks 10

Back a decade or so, riders used to complain about a shortage of tracks where they could work on their Supercross craft. That's definitely not the case these days (at least in So. Cal.), and we've got a batch of tracks here to look over.

Some of these are very fresh (and in a couple cases, they were being reconfigured while we were flying over), but the ones that are our personal favorites have a line burned in, and you can see where the riders are hitting the same place consistently.

It's also interesting to see what kind of tracks are being built, and their relative difficulty.

Above is Yamaha's main track.They have two; one that's a football stadium configuration, and there's also a baseball configuration (below). Yes, the dirt really is that different in color. Just about all the tracks have a high clay content, which makes them a little more durable than softer soil. But they're also quickly torn up if they're ridden when really wet.

Monster Energy Kawasaki's main track (below) has long been a spectating attraction along the 15 freeway. The mid-corner double (lower right) is one of the more unusual obstacles that we've seen in a Supercross track.

Back in the day, the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki crew used to spend more time on the track above, but more often these days you'll find them on the one known as K2 (below), east of the 15 freeway. The area where these tracks are built is a little harder to find, but they've even become part of the tour for some of the MX tour companies that cater to foreign visitors.

Pro Circuit's riders don't have any shortage of places to ride. Outside of turn one at Glen Helen, you'll find their two other tracks. Like K2, this one was being reconfigured. Mitch's boys will have lots of fresh stuff to ride in the run-up to the Monster Energy Supercross.

Back in Corona, you'll find the back-to-back tracks for Rockstar Energy Racing Husqvarna (above), and Red Bull KTM (below).

Just above those two sits the Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM track...though you might also find them on the regular KTM track.

The yellow-mounted riders of Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing, and RCH Soaring Eagle/Jimmy Johns/Suzuki Factory Racing can be found at Suzuki's track.

The Lake Elsinore track is popular with privateers looking for a consistently good place to ride.

The Milestone public track is one of the most popular around, and gets a ton of laps put on it each week.

There are a bunch of tracks at the old Starwest facility. The track below is for the public.

The one next to the fairgrounds at Starwest is rented to Weston Peick, Broc Tickle, and Mitchell Harrison (Star Racing Rookie). With private track rentals in the $5K per month range (rental, and maintenance), it's not uncommon for riders to pitch in together.

In the shot below from Starwest, there's a lot going on. The left track is rented to MAD Racing and Slaton Racing. The center is for Arenacross practice, and the right is rented to Hansen, Millsaps and Bracken Hall.

There you have it. There might be a few others (Lapaglia's and Pala are missing), but that's the bulk of them. Yep, it's a little bit of SX paradise.
