This year's round of the Amp'd Mobile Supercross in San Francisco seemed to have it all. There was great racing, some drama thrown in following the disqualifications last week for fuel issues, the possibility of it being a mud race, as well as on-track skirmishes between new and old rivals. In the end, about the only thing missing was an excess of rain like they had last year…and no one missed that. Besides, if you stayed around for a bit after the race was completed, you could get your fill of that.
Makita Suzuki's Ricky Carmichael also had this race penciled in as part of his half-season tour, and with L&M Racing's Chad Reed healing from his pre-season injuries, it seemed like a prime opportunity for a three-way battle for the lead…and that's exactly what happened. In the end, Ricky had the fewest mistakes, and took the win, though his race wasn't completely "moment"-free. One of the first things he said to the team afterward was, "Did you see that save?" Though both James Stewart and Chad Reed had crashes during the main, they ended up second and third, respectively.
In the Lites class, Ryan Villopoto took his third win of the season aboard his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki, extending his points lead in his quest for his first Supercross championship. He was followed in by the Sobe No Fear / Samsung / Honda teammates, Josh Grant and Jake Weimer, who were making their first podium appearances of the season.
