Today in Unadilla, we finally got the answer to the big “What if” question (What would happen if RC and JS didn’t race?) The answer was that Kevin Windham would be the winner, followed by Tim Ferry and Andrew Short. The reason for this all being possible is because Ricky Carmichael was at home for the first time all season on his part-time schedule, and James Stewart had a nasty crash on the third lap of practice which sent him off of the track on a backboard and to the local hospital to be checked out.

Windham opened the day with a win in the first moto and followed it up with a strong ride to a third place finish, earning him the overall victory, the 28th of his career. “I’ve been known through my career to have a lot of throttle control, which you need at this track,” said Windham. “I come into some of these hard-packed tracks with added confidence. I was riding behind Andrew (Short) and we were kind of closing in, but toward the end I kind of broke out the calculator and started doing the math and knew I could get the win. Timmy “RedDog” Ferry earned second place overall (5-1) with a come-from-behind win in moto two to finish second ahead of Honda’s Andrew Short (6-2).

In the Lites class, things also got a lot more interesting in the title chase, after Ryan Villopoto DNF'd the first moto, following a crash and a radiator that suffered a rock puncture. That caused his 20-point lead ot vaporize. After Villopoto and his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate, Ben Townley split the moto wins on the day, they're now tied on points at the halfway mark of the season.
