I have been riding motorcycles since 1977 and have been racing motocross off and on since 1983. The first National I ever saw was at Washougal in 1982 and I have attended them ever since. I've also been to Nationals at Hang Town and Glen Hellen and Supercrosses at Seattle and Phoenix, Anaheim, and Houston. The best race I've ever been to was the 2007 Motocross des Nations at Budd's Creek where Ryan Villopoto and the United States dominated.
I live in Vancouver, Washington about 23 miles west of Washougal National MX Park and feel very lucky to be so close to such a great track. All the Honda commercials you are seeing during the supercross shows this year with Tedesco in them were filmed there before the 2008 National.
I'm a pilot for FedEx and a former Marine officer. My current bikes are a 2006 Honda CRF450R and a 2005 Honda CR500AF, which I used to have my best season this year. I won the 2008 Washougal High Point Championship, the 2008 Pacific NW Championship, and the 2008 Washougal National Amature Days Championship, all for the 40+C Class. I also placed 3rd in the Washougal National Amature Days Championship in the 30+ C Class.
In 2009 I placed 2nd in the 40+ B Class Washougal high point championship. I also raced in the 40+ Class at Loretta Lynn's and raced against some very fast old guys. In 2010, I switched bikes won the 40+B Class high point championship on my CR500AF. I loved having a 2 stroke, and a bad-assed 500 to boot. On the line in the 40+ practice at Washougal Amateur National, the guy next to me looked at my bike and said, "Man, that's the sweetest bike here."
In 2010 I won the 40+ Intermediate Class Washougal high point championship and am currently defending that title in 2011. I also ride in the International Old Timer Nationals round at Washougal and am planning on riding the WORCS race also.
I have watched Ryan Villopto race many, many times including long before he turned pro, so having him turn out to be one of the world's best racers and this year's supercross champ has been a great treat. We are proud of him around here!
For 2011 I am leading the 40+ Intermediate class at Washougal and have won the Pacific NW Championship series.
