I would try using a single taper CCL needle. Start out in the #3 clip position with a 45 pilot and a 165 main jet, and the air screw at 1.5 turns out to start with. Also make sure the float height is set correctly. I'm not sure which version of PWK you ... more »

It really depends on which needle you are using. There are needles that will allow you to use a #7 slide, but more realistically I would recommend something closer to a #6. A #4 slide is very, very rich when used in a pwk.

Before I can offer any meaningful advise I would need to know what it is. It's the most important jet in a PWK. Everything else gets tuned around it.

What needle are you using ?

I bought this STIC used off a Vital member in January. It came with a 115 nozzle . I got ahold of George and exchanged it for the current 113a, which came back with the 50 pilot and 190 main already in there. I think he also sent me some new JD needles ... more »

I’m using a #7 slide, 50 pilot and a 190 main with 3.5 turns out on the air screw. It’s a really nice setup.

I’m not going to say just yet. I have to order and inspect what I think it is first. I have the richer(oem) version of what I think it is now.

I'm using the 113a needle jet, along with the JD red needle, which I think I know what it is a copy of. The STIC setup was very easy to dial in on my 250. I've been using the STIC since the middle of March of this year.

There is no reason the Mikuni can't be made to work as well as the PWK. The Mikuni actually has more tuning options available to it, but it's easy to get lost in all of it if you don't understand how all of the circuits interconnect with each other. ... more »

If you are still using the 42-75 needle ? I would suggest using the 42-74 needle, also in the 2nd clip position, while leaving the pilot and main the same. I have found that the richer 74 diameter needle is much more weather tolerant than the leaner ... more »

I need more info. Which side of the slide do you want to modify, and what bike will it be for ? What slide do you currently have in the bike now ? Offroad or MX ?

Added reply in a thread ISO: Mikuni TMX 4.5 slide 4/14/2020 11:23 AM

The difference isn't the shape of the slide, but the fact that the KTM/Husky carbs don't have a semi filled, slot /tube for the Honda's TPS. I have used many Honda slides in KTM's, but I have to modify the KTM slides to be used in a TPS equipped Mikuni. ... more »

Not true, Red Moto sells a kit, built by Athena , I think, to convert Honda Crf 450's into 400's(413cc). It's said to work really well. They also sell a 300cc kit for the 250's. I'm aware it's not a Yamaha, but... https://www.checkpointoff-road.com/redmoto-usa-distributor ... more »

Like mentioned above, you are correct in thinking that the choke is also used to set the idle. Side note, Those Keihin PJ carbs had a really inefficient pilot circuit, which required the use of a large pilot jet. On your 125, it should be around a 52, ... more »

That bike used an AS1 PWK, which is a long body,91mm, carb. The fit is going to be a little tight with the 05-07 air boot, but it will work fine. To get you in the ball park jetting wise, I would use a single taper CCL needle, and start out in the 3rd ... more »

Like has been mentioned above, you will only need the air boot from an 05'-07'. In 04', (04'--07') Honda switched to a TMX-x carb which is 75mm in length vs the older TMX carb, which is 91mm. If you do go for a Keihin PWK carb, you will want to get the ... more »
