1--Replace the jet block gasket 2--42-74 needle in the 2nd clip position. 3--#5 slide, I like to notch(4mm wide x 4mm deep) them on the front side, as it makes the pilot circuit more efficient, which in turn helps the bike idle better. This often times ... more »

On the 89' 125, I really need to know what needle you are trying to use. It simply may not be usable in your bike. The needle is the most important tuning device in the carb and the ends( pilot & main) will get tuned around it. On the 06' kx144 with ... more »

What jetting do you have in the carb currently, needle, pilot, main, slide ? Is this an AS 1, screw on top, or AS 2 Pwk, short body top held on by screws ?

I'm not sure of the efficiency of that particular engine, but I would start off with a J series starting diameter needle. I would start off with a Yamaha duel taper N89J in #3 clip, with a 45 pilot and 172 main jet. These should be safe starting points, ... more »

The 00’ Honda carb comes with a 7.0 slide, while the aftermarket Keihin PWK’s sometimes come with a 6.5 slide. I prefer the 7.0 slide for 250/300 bikes.

The jetting on the YZ 250's is very flexible. There are a bunch of different combos that work well in that engine. I will say though that, that N3xx series needle sometimes has a stutter right as it transitions off of the pilot circuit and into the needle ... more »

I have had one for a couple of months now, but I haven't had anything to really test it on. I've been messing around with a 36-39 oval bore Keihin STIC setup that I really like.

They must have changed it in the xc/xc-w line then. I know I have worked on some that came from the factory with an s-4 in them. I think the 125's may have even come with an s-7. Either way the richer jet needle is a band aid fix for the leaner s-1.

Added reply in a thread 2018 ktm 250sx jetting and FWW 5/9/2020 2:05 PM

You're right they changed to an s-4 needle jet in 2019. That rich 43-71 needle was a shot at a band aid fix. Instead of replacing the S-1 for the for the richer S-4 and leaner 42-75 needle they tried to just use a richer jet needle. KTM will never replace ... more »

Yes, it's an optional KTM/Yamaha needle that is quite a bit richer than what you are currently using. You may possibly need to use a needle with a starting diameter that rich in the middle of winter up here, or somewhere with an elevation that is below ... more »

I would try using a single taper CCL needle. Start out in the #3 clip position with a 45 pilot and a 165 main jet, and the air screw at 1.5 turns out to start with. Also make sure the float height is set correctly. I'm not sure which version of PWK you ... more »

It really depends on which needle you are using. There are needles that will allow you to use a #7 slide, but more realistically I would recommend something closer to a #6. A #4 slide is very, very rich when used in a pwk.

Added reply in a thread Issues with PWK on KX125 4/24/2020 12:52 PM

Before I can offer any meaningful advise I would need to know what it is. It's the most important jet in a PWK. Everything else gets tuned around it.
