This is my favorite clip from a moto movie. It's from "Time to Ride" circa 2001 or 2002. I captured it from my original VHS tape many years ago, so forgive the lower quality.

You're right, I missed that change. Those springs wouldn't work with the stock perch height.

Added reply in a thread ISO yz250 .49 or .50 fork springs 12/26/2019 12:09 PM

FYI: A good source for these springs is from a 2014 - 2017 YZ450F. Those years had .49 and .50 in the forks depending on year. Racetech and Yamaha parts diagrams have the rates listed for each year.

I'll be hitting 40 this year... 2019 I got back to riding/racing after a few years off toward a college degree. I bought a KX500 in September with a lot of nostalgia tied to a buddy of mine who is age 80 and kinda mentored me into racing twenty-some ... more »

I have some OEM 2011 fork springs up on the shelf that have less than 10 hours on them. I switched up to 4.5 springs and some different valving when I got the bike. I believe you are correct that stock on that bike is a 4.2 in the fork.

Yamaha SSS KYB forks have some "float" in the free piston. You'll have a gap, or free play like you described. It's about 3/8 of an inch (by eye) on a stock fork. I haven't measured them, but I would guess it's meant to be 8mm. Did you try bleeding the ... more »

That's not how needle clip position and main jet size relate at all. Nothing personal, but that second sentence is not going to help anyone jet a bike properly. There are diagrams in every manual that show how jets relate to throttle position.

This is the way to go if you like the design of the stock pegs. I run the 2010 YZ250F OEM pegs on my two-strokes... Probably the same part number as the '17 to '20 pegs you mentioned. I believe they are 5mm lower than the 450F model in 2014/2015.

Buy a 125 or a 150 and lose about 30 to 50 pounds. You'll learn a lot on the smaller bike for a year. That will make you a better rider the rest of your life. Loosing some weight will make you faster, safer and you'll be able to ride longer. Also, you'll ... more »

The stock valving on that bike is more than good enough for a 150lb guy in the C class. Save most of your cash and skip the re-valve... Get the adjustable link from Devol instead. That YZ250F chassis from 2014 to 2018 handles a lot better with a 143.5mm ... more »
