Added reply in a thread Yz250 5th gear neutral 3/14/2020 11:54 AM

The YZ transmission is only good for about +/- 40 hours for a faster guy racing motocross, less if you're a pro, more if you ride the woods and take it easy. From the sound of your issue, you need a center shift fork, new "3rd gear pininon" and "5th ... more »

Added reply in a thread Moto people 3/12/2020 8:36 PM

It could be tough if things drag out for a while. I own/operate a small CNC machine shop. One of my best customers promotes monster truck shows, sells parts and builds trucks. I'm sure his budget (thus mine) will not be the same this year.

Added reply in a thread Gopro 8 3/12/2020 4:12 PM

The sound quality (wind noise) still seems terrible on these compared to the old Hero 3 and Hero 4. I currently have a Hero 5 and have the same terrible wind sound (maybe a bit worse). I cut up a gym sock to put over the camera with a rubber band They ... more »

Added reply in a thread Is banning electronic aids better for the sport. 3/11/2020 7:43 PM

I'll play. The engine and traction stuff doesn't bother me so much right now, but I'm aware of what can be done down the line and I'm worried that it will reduce the skill and fitness required to race/ride a bike. I'd like to preserve the toughness and ... more »

Added reply in a thread Yamaha is introducing a new 2-stroke!!! 3/11/2020 8:45 AM

You are comparing apples to oranges, a motocross engine has a clutch and gearbox attached to it. For comparison to that KTM250SX-F: I just placed a current YZ250 engine on a reasonably accurate bathroom scale and read 54 pounds (with everything but the ... more »

Added reply in a thread Eddie Sanders 3/7/2020 12:57 AM

Gorr sucks to deal with about 50% of the time. I have a 295 kit that I bought about ten years ago and put maybe 15 hours on. Zero problems, plenty of holeshots and I enjoyed racing with it. It is sitting in a box here in my shop because I refuse to buy ... more »

Added reply in a thread works suspension takes 30 foot case WTF 3/6/2020 3:18 PM

Dirty Points is absolutely right. It's just shims, springs and oil at some point. The current stock stuff is pretty damn good and with a good setting it can handle a lot more than you seem to think. You see the race-tech stickers on his forks in that ... more »

Added reply in a thread 2002 YZ250 silencer confusion/ advice needed please... 3/2/2020 6:31 PM

This is very solid advice right here. You don't get much from changing the silencer, but you can really change the power spread with a small change to the timing. The FMF fatty pipe is pretty good for drawing out the power and being super smooth on the ... more »

Added reply in a thread Yamaha YZ250F Big Bore 2/28/2020 6:00 PM

It can go either way. I rode a 270cc Yamaha in some sand dunes where you really notice the difference in power. He had camshafts and some other mods that made the bike run pretty well. On the other hand, if you just install a big bore kit without doing ... more »

Added reply in a thread Moving Up a Class After 30+? Thoughts 2/19/2020 12:36 PM

What you have to do is remind yourself not to ride over your head, but push to improve. If you race with the faster group you'll rise to their level over time if you're smart. You're too old to become a pro and you're never going to make money at this ... more »

Added reply in a thread What bike should my old, fat a** buy? 2/17/2020 4:19 PM

How fat? If you're 200+, get a 450F as it will make getting back into motocross a bit easier on you. If you're under 200, a 250F is great, or look into a KTM 350SX-F. Nothing wrong with a Suzuki 450, it's a faster bike than most of us will ever need. ... more »

Added reply in a thread Japanese manufacturers, can we have an honest conversation about your chain guide mounting please? 2/17/2020 10:34 AM

I've heard guys on forums talk about breaking these before, but have never been to a motocross race and seen one fail. I think it's a pretty rare failure. There's no way to gather accurate data about those failures, but I have a good hunch most people ... more »

Added reply in a thread Bubba in for Tampa on PulpMX Fantasy, or is Marx trolling us? 2/14/2020 9:53 PM

That would be great... I know this will never happen, but I'd sure like to have RC, James and Chad in the booth at the same time one day. I liked the combo with Reed and Carmichael, I hope that happens more often when Chad is retired.

Added reply in a thread San Diego Supercross - Night Show Bench Racing 2/8/2020 6:32 PM

What's happening with yours? I wasn't able to log in on my web browser today during practice. I still can't seem to get in on any of three browsers I've tried. I could bring it up on my phone through the app, but I'm not watching the race on a damn phone. ... more »

Honestly, I saw that photo of the San Diego whoops that was posted a day or two ago and I immediately thought of Musquin.

Added reply in a thread WANTED- Pro Circuit clamps 48mm/04 YZ250 2/7/2020 10:21 PM

Everyone misses the fact that the old clamps have the forks on 190mm centers while the SSS clamps are on 192mm centers. The fork lugs have this difference figured into them. If you run SSS forks in a 190mm clamp, your wheel will not be centered relative ... more »

Added reply in a thread Yz250 frame to head bolt threads 2/3/2020 4:54 PM

There are two different sizes on the head-stay. M8-1.25mm is the thread pitch for the two small ones through the frame. M10-1.25 is the thread pitch for the larger screw that goes through the cylinder head casting. Use flanged nuts if you can get them. ... more »

Added reply in a thread Tennis elbow fix? 2/3/2020 1:04 PM

I have some screws and a plate in the left elbow. I broke a little process off the joint about ten years ago. I don't have any pain and have full range of motion thanks to aggressive physical therapy and I think staying fit helps a ton. I think all the ... more »

Added reply in a thread YZ450F KYB Inner Cartridge Adjuster Spins 2/3/2020 12:47 PM

Sounds like the adjuster screw is broken or the threads are stripped out of it. You have to completely disassemble the fork to do it correctly because you'll have to re-set the oil levels. You need the large octagon wrench (eight sides) for the cap, ... more »
