I also had a great time at the Rio reunion. It was well organizes, the food was good, and the old school bikes on the track brought back many memories. Talking with others about 70’s Rio days, “do you remember such and such”, conversations brought joy ... more »

I think i remember a rider named Duke, I will ask my dad, he recall's alot more about other riders. I was from orange Texas and started at pleasure island mx park. Later rio bravo became my home track. In 1978 my dad lost his job because of a stike, we moved to south carloina and ended my mini days. I still have real vivid memerioes of the NMA, and wining the #2 plate in my classes. My email is tray85221@hotmail.com and i am looking at the AHRMA website now. Looks interesting and fun.

Mark Dufrene was from New Orleans and he rode an MR50 74' til about 76' then rode an EC Birt Suzuki, they calle him Mark "DUKE" Dufrene. He was pretty fast on the RM80's around 78-79. What is your e-mail I can send you current Vintage racing photos. Yea it's really great to still race I'm 52 now and race at least once a mouth and mostly it's a rode trips. My Duaghter and I race the Vintage MX Nationals so we really travel a crazy amount with my wife (Team Manager), we keep it all about fun. Check into the AHRMA racing it is like reliving some of those teenage years.

That picture came from 76 Monroe. I think it is so cool that you are still able to race and ride. Great picture of the elsinore, wish I could see and hear one again.

I do not recall knowing Mark Dufrene right now. Can you tell me more about him and if he rode a MR-50? Where was he from? I do remember "Bulliet Ben", but ben was in a couple of years older. Do you remember a track in De Ridder LA., that was a horse race track and motorcross track?

"Do you remember how the sharp ended cammel hump jumps were in Monroe in 1976 at the La. State champoinship. I crashed hard on one of them, still remember the pain. lol"

I can't say I rember those jumps, You know I'm even a bit older than you, I'm still racing (+50) and I'm real happy when I remeber to turn my gas on lol. From looking a your photos I beleive you were on Minis when I was on 125's. Do you remember racing with Mark Dufrene on the minis back then? He is my little cousin and traveled with my family alot back then.

The bottom one looks like a A.J. Whitting (Snail Pipe), great for bottom end torque.
