He was a beast. Incredible rider.

I assume of all the hundreds of races DeCoster competed in, that has to be the one he regrets. Must have been an epic day for the fans otherwise. Jim Pomeroy became the first American to win a moto at the 500cc USGP Carlsbad, California. Pomeroy did

If you look at DeCoster’s riding and results in 1976 you see the top MX racer in the world at that moment. He won the 500cc World Championship, the Motocross and Trophee Des Nations, and the Trans AMA title. He was up against some very fast Americans

Added reply in a thread Who invented skimming through the whoops? 3/3/2020 4:54 AM

I seem to remember the two guys who got the most attention for perfecting the technique of skimming the whoops were Kieth Bowen and Ron Lechien. Both Yamaha riders at the time. 1983-1984 period.

Gave it up for good in May. Three reasons in order. I couldn’t reconcile it with my Christian faith. It was damaging my marriage. It was wrecking my health. So far I’ve stuck it out. My life is only better from this.

Watching Hannah’s second moto is one of my favorite Motocross memories. He dug deep and somehow channeled the 1976 125 National Champion and got it done for the team. He was hanging all over the bike getting every inch of traction he could. Full shriek ... more »
