After racing 125 2-strokes the past two years, I decided to try something a little...different.. for 2020. Today was my first ride on a bike that started life as a 1980 XR500, and it was an absolute blast.

When I raced both 125 and 250 two-strokes last year, I would always be more excited about taking that 125 off the stand and hitting the track. Now, the only times I want to ride a bigger bike are in deep sand or mud.

Congrats barnett!! Double class wins are awesome! Glad to see it was finally dry enough to race. We'll be heading to round 3 in Florida next month. Surely I couldn't get rained out on both coasts, could I?? Nah....

Well...that sucked. Got to my bud's house in Huntington Beach on Thursday and it's 45 degrees and pissing rain. By mid-afternoon, the race had been cancelled. So...with little hope of doing ANY riding over the weekend, we decide to cut our losses by ... more »

Yep, made the Arizona race and had a great time. I don't know the exact attendance, but heard several mention the entries being around 300-320. Majority were vintage, but surprisingly (given past numbers for this race) there were quite a few post-vintage ... more »

Thanks for the vid CD! Track looks like it has some fun vintage style jumps. Arizona gave me an idea how hard and slick some of those turns can be when everyone uses the same path.

I've noticed in several of the videos the track conditions you've mentioned, that the insides of the turns were still mushy while everyone was using a single line around the outside. That sucks, but it is what it is, and I'll still be stoked to be there. ... more »

Thanks for the video link; getting fired up to ride now! We're both late 50's dudes riding 125's, mostly because they are still the most fun bikes on the planet and....it always feels like you are going very fast whether you are or not; haha. My buddy ... more »

Oops, I meant to type Kent, not Stack. Maybe you can dress up a mannequin with that gear and have it standing next to the bike. I'm sure Kent wouldn't think that's creepy at all.

Joe might need it to get into those pants!

We'll roll into SoCal on Thursday morning, Feb 14th. Have never ridden any of the current tracks. My last time to ride in Cali was around 1975 when I rode Indian Dunes on Friday night and Saddleback Saturday! The goal was to also race Carlsbad on Sunday ... more »

My buddy and I will be there. We're trying to talk some more Texans into it, but no commitments yet. We both ride 125's; he in GP and Ultima Intermediate and myself in GP and Ultima Expert. From what I hear of the PV scene for West Coast ahrma, we may ... more »

Girls hitchhiking certainly brings up a memory. 14 years old, hanging out in the pits at Rio Bravo one Saturday night before a Sunday race, I meet a couple girls that said they'd come visit me in Beaumont (about 90 minutes from Rio) sometime. I didn't ... more »

That seat is AWESOME!! Maybe not too late to stencil "YAMAHA" in the middle of the upper black part? (same look as the YZ seat covers). Either way, this whole project is off the charts cool. Keep us posted on the next steps/plans.

How about a variation on #3. Leave the lower seat (under your legs) all black, but done in non-slip motorcycle seat material. Switch the colors seen for the back of #3 to have smooth black on top and yellow in the middle. On that black top part, be sure ... more »

I had very good customer service and performance results with Eric and Brad Harvey at NorCal Vintage Racing. I was always able to communicate with one of them and they can anodize your shock body/forks as well as tune everything up with RT components.

Ledger, the tank is the original plastic; painted. The bike was a garage queen before I got it, so painting the tank and fenders was ok for that purpose. I bought it to race, though, so the fenders didn't last long. The paint on the tank is holding up ... more »
