I would tear it down. Something about them collapsing on the face of a jump seems pretty terrifying.
I’m just looking for a barebones extended express/econoline. Seems like the market is changing so may be able to snag up a good deal in the coming months.
Even for casual trail riding I’d rather send someone out on a KX100 than a trail bike. It’s pretty easy to hurt yourself once you start pushing a TTR too hard.

I’ve done some pulls through a field by the house. Gets maybe slightly better with more time but I really can’t reef on it there for more than third gear.

Pressed the piston in and got a bubble or two at the master cylinder. Cycled some fluid through reverse bleeding, no luck.
That was my next move to try, I seem to remember having to do that 2-3 years ago after the bike sat for a while and had a similar feeling at the lever.
If you could get it for $500 or below I’d be all in, if you’re looking for a project. I’d imagine finding an aluminum frame YZ on eBay is fairly easy and cheap, along with any other parts you could want. The YZ has to be the cheapest and easier to restore ... more »

Do you remember if your Hinson setup had a machined mark anywhere on the pressure plate or anything in the manual about orientation. I swear I never paid attention to anything like all the other times I’ve swapped plates.
