Double Victory for Pirelli at the MXGP of Great Britain at Matterley Basin

Antonio Cairoli Takes Second Consecutive MXGP Win to Keep the Red Plate and Thomas Kjer Olsen Wins both MX2 Races to Jump atop Championship Standings

MATTERLEY BASIN, Great Britain (March 25, 2019) – Following brilliant results obtained at the opening round in ArgentinaPirelli confirmed the excellent performance of its products by dominating the Grand Prix of Great Britain – the second round of 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship - which took place at the spectacular Matterley Basin circuit. SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and rear were the tires chosen by almost all the riders equipped by the Italian brand to face the medium-hard soil of the British track. 129 racers from 192 starters, in four classes, chose to rely on Pirelli.

Nine-time World Champion Antonio Cairoli secured his second overall victory in the MXGP class thanks to 1-2 moto scores. Tim Gajser carried the confidence from Saturday’s qualification heat win and grabbed the second moto victory, finishing runner-up overall (3-1) on the day. Privateer Jeremy Van Horebeek, competing for the Honda SR team, rode strong to fifth overall (5-6).

With defending champion Jorge Prado forced to miss the race due to injury, Thomas Kjer Olsen dominated the MX2 class with a perfect double moto victory. The results also gave Olsen the red plate in the championship standings. Henry Jacobi finished second (2-3) ahead of rookie Tom Vialle, who grasped the first podium of his young career with third overall (3-4). Calvin Vlaanderen’s fourth place (8-2) confirmed the extreme versatility of Pirelli’s tires as the brand filled the top four positions with four different manufacturers.

At the Grand Prix of Great Britain, Pirelli presented teams with the SCORPION™ MX SOFT in the new 100/90-19 size, suitable for use with 250F bikes, which will certainly be a key model and bound to be used by several riders at the Grand Prix of the Netherlands hosted by the sandy Valkenswaard track next weekend.
