I've set a few YZ's up with the "X" CDI ( better than retarding the timing, IMO ) and "X" power valve spring mod, along with lowering the compression with a head cut. Really smooths out the power and adds some rev's. I also love the DEP pipe and shorty ... more »

Good information guys. Thanks a bunch. An hours drive is pretty comparable to what I have to do now just to ride. Racing is 1 to 3 hours, sometime a little more. So that's pretty comparable to what I'm doing now. Very cool.

I'm thinking you'll be able to update the old bikes. It might require a tank and a subframe, but I think it will be possible.

The fact that the scuffing is full circumference and appears to go below the bottom ring line makes it look like the bore is too tight. I assume the piston is scuffed from top to bottom like the bore.

I'm like PawPaw, I thought we were looking at the piston at TDC.

Awesome looking bike. Shame about the problem. Pull the head and cylinder off and post some more pictures. From that picture and you saying the intake side is marked up too, it sounds like the bore may just be too tight.

This is how I set them up with the RM needle around here for 93 octane pump gas; 170M / 48P / NECJ-3 / 1.5AS / 45PJ / 7.0Slide. Just above sea level at about 70F with a RAD of around 95%.

Added reply in a thread YZ250 Zook needle help 5/20/2021 7:06 AM

The Suzuki needle is way richer from 1/2 to full throttle. Most guys go with the NECJ needle when switching to the RM needle for the smaller straight diameter. They think the Suzuki needle is magic, but it's the "J" diameter that gets them all excited. ... more »

Your head gasket was leaking on the intake side. It could have caused the exhaust bridge to over heat or it just didn't have enough relief on it when built. It needs a little love.

All those apps do is adjust the stock jetting for R.A.D.. It's only going to tell you how much deviation from stock is needed for your current atmospheric conditions. Sliding the dot along the bar just changes that area by percentage of the scale to ... more »
