That hill is Mount Whitney...It is pretty cool. However the one picture that reads Jeff Alessi, has Bobby Garrison #69 too. He raced both classes that day. I know they advertise the same track as the national, but I don't think Mt. Whitney will be ran ... more »

That was Jimmy Lewis, racing with Emig, not Lawrence ! Glen Helen raceway, has about 86 years left, on the 99 year lease, of the racing venue..so you can race their for a few more years.

I have never seen a Quad, out do a motorcycle, when they are all combined in a single race...for instance The Baja 1000. Take the best Quad racer in the world, (who ever that is) put him against the best motocross racer, say....oh...maybe, James Stewart...whos' ... more »

I agree, about the quads being louder...I was present, at the 4-stroke nationals, and the quad, class was at minimum, 8-10 decibles louder. The funny, part...the quad guys new it, and laughed ! All we can do is hope for those guys to learn how to balance, ... more »

We put silencers on motorcycles, back in the 70s, and still we had land closure. I live in Orange county, California...we used to have approx., 10 actual race tracks...not practice tracks, but real racing. Today, we have only one race track in Orange ... more »

here's a pic of my first bike 1963 Yamaha...I got it in 1962 My Dad, put trials tires on it, and off to the desert we went. I rode this bike til 1967, and then got a new Hodaka ACE 90

The track is just a shadow, of the past. I went to a mini race in honor of Marty, we were soon chased out by the authorities. If you were to enter the race track area, from Melrose, you can make out some of the old raceway. Carlsbad, was one of my favorite ... more »
