TooOld4WFO, I bought new radiator guards as those were missing on my bike. I think they were about $35/each from Honda. As for plastic polish, I use Novus. Good info Bearuno! The KTM pegs are also cheap, I got my last set for $13 shipped on Ebay. As ... more »

I worked on the tank tonight and it turned out pretty good for amazingly little effort. I scrubbed it with a toothbrush and simple green to clean it. After a half hour and a rinse, I wiped the stained areas with mineral spirits and a rag. That cut through

I second that. Hope you heal up dude, but sweet Lord that is a mess of a motor. Looked like a very unhappy rod.

Thanks, your resto is going well too! I'm hoping to not paint the motor. I suspect once I clean the gunk away, the paint will be in good shape. But yes, I would prefer the engine to be black. The KTM pegs were a very snug fit. I ended up grinding maybe

Yeah Yamaha and KTM interchange with Honda. Not sure on the others.

Looking good. I'm jealous of the tank and airbox. I've got a 92 CR500R I'm doing and those are the next two items to get to. I am really not looking forward to it

I got tied up with work for several weeks, so I haven't done a whole lot. I did manage to get the rear brake pedal mounted, verify the rear brakes are operational, installed an OEM disc guard and got the caliper guard cleaned and installed. The axle

Well, the stock bumpers always break, and if they break enough, you will hear metal on metal clanging sounds inside the fork. These poly bumpers will never break. I've only got 2 hours of light duty ride time and the action seems spot on, no metal noises ... more »

I love the bear traps! My shins hate the bear traps, but I love em. I wanted a hot pink/white Hutch so bad when I was a kid. Instead I got this thing from Coast to Coast.

I think you would have better luck sanding out the discolored portion as the section that was covered with the graphic looks pretty good IMO. I also find it interesting how well that part held up. I'm still not sure what exactly causes the discoloration ... more »

Took forever, but I finally got the shock and back wheel installed. Feels good to have a rolling chassis again. https://youtu.be/muov8EaPrPI

Did all of these bikes have the cool ATK chain tensioning system? Or just some models? I can't really tell what I'm looking at on the swingarm of your bike.

I approve! I never appreciated ATK when I was a kid, but they have really grown on me. Looking forward to your build.

Serviced the bearings in the knuckle and the link. The knuckle bearings were pretty good, the link was pretty rough. But, once you knocked the rust off everything it came back to life with fresh grease. I'm amazed at how well these needle bearings can

Very cool! Those frame cracks are typical. I restored an 86 R over 10 years ago and raced it a couple months ago for my 40th birthday in the Flat River Grand Prix. It was a brutal 2+ hours, but I got 2nd place and didn't blow anything up (or wreck).

Thanks. I've got nutserts in the swingarm. My plan was to just plug them with a nice looking button head bolt, but then I got thinking that a kickstand may come in handy. Not sure what I'll do right now, but if I find a nice kickstand that will mount ... more »
