I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes.
Thank you!
Once you attach the star gear thingy to the drum, you will be able to use it to find neutral since there is an obvious detent. Not that I think it really matters though. I don't know what would prevent you from assembling it with any of the gears engaged. ... more »
I concur on the yellow frame. It's hard to pull that off. I tried a white frame a long time ago and had little hope of it looking good, but ended up liking it quite a bit:
We've got a two car garage with one side that sticks out 10 feet longer. This is where I do most of my work.
Very nice looking. I like the graphics and color combo. How does it run?
Its 99% done now. I need a chain roller and a few other minor things before I can ride it, but she started up and it held all its fluids.
I got the exhaust installed along with a few other bits. Took a vid of the bike as its nearly completed. https://youtu.be/zjkTQwkxUrs
Frame looks good for a rattle can. As for the trans, I usually install the trans in the stator side case. Then you can install the star gear thing to the shift drum and spin it around to make sure your gears are all engaging correcting (check the speed ... more »
Thanks for the info. So I'm guessing there is no performance loss or gain (no combustion taking place that close to the exhaust port)? I suspected that it was a design for either performance, or some odd seizure damage. Either way, I have seen worse ... more »
Cleaned up the engine and took a peek inside:
Cleaned up the throttle, installed a OEM style grip, a new Motion Pro cable and installed the carb and got cable adjusted. Also installed the new UNI filter and a gas tank strap from 2004 CR250R. The CR500R strap was discontinued, and this one was only
Can't argue with that one! Nice score.
Will it have the FX logo in the graphic? That's the only thing that bugs me with their replica graphics
Mag wheel spray cleaner. I've never had it actually clean anything and almost gave up on it, but it sure did work this time.
If you aren't too picky on the details, I would suggest EVO MX. They won't be able to replicate the metallic silver, but a flat gray doesn't look too bad. Here are some 2002 graphics they did for me recently.
Tore into the carb. Notice the kink in the throttle cable!
I took the airbox back off to address the hole in the side and the crack on the bottom. I figured I'm handy enough that I can do anything, so I why not just fill the hole with melted plastic and sand it out?? I used a toothbrush that had seen better
I didn't have any lacquer thinner otherwise I probably would have tried it. The brake cleaner did evaporate quickly but that was ok because it was making the plastic soft. The sanding made the gummy plastic ball up and roll away. Then iI would spray ... more »
I'm so jealous of this bike. I didn't pay attention to KTM until right about 1996 when a local dealer opened up and started selling them hard and by then they were always butterscotch and orange. I knew of the older white/red/teal bikes from obscure ... more »
