I made some spacers and tried to use alumiweld rods to weld them to the skid plate. Unfortunately I was having no luck so I had to bust out the spool gun. This is my second time ever using it and it went about as I expected. It welds, but with a typical

Got my $30 sheet of aluminum and trimmed it out yesterday. Its 3/16 thick and as you can see, won't be enough on its own to clear the peg mounts. I'll have to do a little spacing and also go back and trim the peg mounts a little more, but I'm getting

Not my finest work, but it will get another white number plate decal and its good enough for a rider.

Started working on the number plates. The fossilized decals protected the surface so they will just needed superficial sanding. Here is one of them after a little razor blading to clean up the scuffs and 800 grit. Ill post some finish sanding and polishing

Working on a skid plate. I ordered a sheet of 18x10 3/16 aluminum. Here is the cardboard template for it

I also shaved about 3/8 inch off of the bottom of the footpeg mounts. I'm going to use a 1/8 inch strap of aluminum to space my skid plate ... more »

Slow progress, but here is an update:

Yeah, I must be a foot peg diva now in my old age because I considered the stock stuff unridable.

I haven't done a final measure yet, but I think they are going to be almost 1 inch lower. I'm going to have to come up with a skid plate now because ... more »

Nice shots K0. Im digging the jersey! I got the footpegs pretty much finished. They turned out about as good as I was hoping for. I've just got to fit some hardware and grind out a bit of the weld to make sure the allen head bolts fit.

That's good advise, but my real problem is I have hardly ridden the bike, so I honestly don't know what is going to be comfortable. As much as I would like to powdercoat these, I probably should just spray paint them as its very likely I'll be chopping ... more »

Nice shots Jeffro! And Matt I was going to try and use the stock seat cover....but, now you've got the gears turning. Made some progress on the pegs tonight. I traced the old peg flange and bolt holes to a sheet of mild steel. Here I used a block of

I was thinking the same on the front fender but it was looking a bit too much. I think an "ATK powered by Rotax" will fit nicely on the front number plate or tip of the front fender. Im done with the blue frame! What do you think of all white swinger/frame? ... more »

Progress has come to a halt. I've been sick, its been snowy/single digit temperatures, and I'm out of Argon/Co2 for the welder. Once I get a new bottle I'll be able to repair the broken upper engine mount on the frame and continue on the foot peg mounts.

For the KX that finish looks great, but I like the hubs a lot better. At this point I'm thinking about giving up on the nickle plating or metal type finishes. I'm getting into unknown and more costly territory and its holding up progress. My guy does ... more »

That is unlike any black chrome that I've seen. Do you have any other shots of it?

I had some parts chromed for a car maybe 5 years back. It was a supercharger outlet and three intercooler tubes and was about $500.

I would think for a MX frame and a swingarm, after shipping it would be nearly a grand. And yes, this shop did ... more »

That looks pretty good to me. I'm only after a nickle plated finish. Thanks for sharing, I'll have to talk to my guy one more time. Micah

This may be as good of a place to post this as any, but does anyone have experience with chrome powder coat? I already know it won't look anything like chrome, but I talked to my local guy today and he said that in his experience it hasn't been flexible. ... more »

I just don't like riding four wheelers. I imagine I would get it out once in a rare while to putt around the yard or play in the snow. Kinda hard to justify investing that much time/money into something that is cool, but I don't really want in the end. ... more »
